I got the dogs a toy a while ago, they love it, it's made of a sort of towelling stuff & it's been chucked around & generally roughed up for over a year. It's been washed loads too.

It had a tiny little hole in it which Hebe nibbled at and started to pull the stuffing out so I decided to be all domesticated :- & repair it.

before sewing it up I had a quick look inside as i was pushing the stuffing back in.

I'm glad I did as you wouldn't believe the stuff that was inside it.

There was a squeaky balloon type thing, with a 3" piece of plastic tubing with metal end piece, all wrapped up in foam, covered in a plastic bag tied on with an elastic band.

The 10p piece in the photo is just for size comparison.

all those awful things inside a dog toy. If anyone else has one of these please be aware how dangerous it could be if your dog tears it up.

"Pinky Pup" :b has now been sewn back up but is a bit slimmer than it was before

One of the toys which my gang "murdered" had the same sort of device inside it.

Suppose it's one way of making a toy squeak, but it's very Heath Robinson

Horrid aren't they ... I've been known to take them out before giving the dogs the toy and then use them as squeakers in training. The toys I hate most don't say they have batteries or if they do don't say how many or what kind (some sorts are more toxic than others).

Surely these types of thing wouldn't pass trading standards if they were made and sold for children.

The trouble is these toys are only supposed to be given to dogs while they are supervised so the dog wouldn't be in any danger. I would never leave a dog alone with a fabric toy of any description if there is risk of destruction as a dog could choke or impact it's gut from consuming part of it.

My boxer dog is very destructive and would not be allowed a fabric based toy at all under any circumstances but fortunately none of my whippets are destructive and one won't even touch the fabric toys.

If you know you have a destructive dog or a chewer, simply avoid that type of product, but there's nothing wrong with the toy if used correctly.

I have the blue version of that same toy and under supervision regard it a perfectly safe for play. xx

My Hebe will nibble away at a little hole & make it bigger & then pull the insides out if allowed. I don't leave these type of toys lying around as I know she will disembowel them  The hole appeared during a play session after over a year of really rough treatment & Hebe managed to tug some filling out before I could take it off her. I took it off her & was going to repair it when I noticed all the stuff inside. the reason I put it on here was to warn folk who maybe do let their dogs have free acsess to these type of toys.

I've been agility training today & the toy has been well & truly pulled around & is now being washed again, I think it will fall apart before very long. Must get another one before then.
