Hi all, been looking for samewhere to take the kids this week as their on hoilday and i'v got the week off. (w00t) Today we went to cotswold wildlife park, tomarrow wolvercote? but i'v got no ideas were else to go. :(

The last 2 days of the hoildays we are going to take them out, to musems and stuff. -_-

But were can i take them and the dog together? As he is apart of the family. Looked at the national trust but cant find anywere that i can take Zeb. :(

The National Trust allow dogs in the grounds but not in the houses for obvious reasons. We usually go in seperately if we want to do the house but I do know that not all properties allow children in. I know this is true of Waddesdon Manor. Age 12 there if I remember correctly.

There are also great stretches of coast, moor and other land owned by the National Trust were a dog can be taken and walked free of charge although they do expect that all dogs be kept on a leash whilst on their property.

We have had some great days out with the National Trust. :)

I think the Chiltern Sculpture Trail is probably not too far from you. It is in Cowleaze Woods. Entrance is free...and I can't see why dogs wouldn't be allowed...it's Forestry Commission Land.

I went years ago and loved the sculptures you discover along the trails in the woods. The Fish Tree was good.

Here's a link, I hope it works:

I know that cutting SO well - it would be nice to see what's beyond. Must try it ourselves. Great place for watching red kites too

What about Blenheim Palace nr Woodstock? Dogs on leads are allowed in the grounds; afterwards you could have a lovely cream tea in Woodstock (the museum café is the cheapest place and has a little garden where children can play. Usually something interesting in their gallery space. They wouldn't allow dogs inside though).

Blenheim Palace: Park and grounds

Bit further away, but Batsford Arboretum is nice and dogs on leads are allowed; there's a falconry centre there too.

Yes...they released a couple of breeding pairs there some years ago now, and they have done really well. Some lovely walks to be had in the Chilterns too. Guess the kids wouldn't be so keen on just walks though. :p

That's a great suggestion - we have been there often and it's one of the childrens favourite places, they love going off to try to find another sculpture as they are often quite hidden, and it is great for the dogs.  AND you see masses of red kites up there - we see them every day now, they are an awesome sight.

Another place the children love is the Home of Rest for Horses in Speen near Princess Risborough.http://www.homeofrestforhorses.co.uk/

You are allowed to take cut up bits of carrot to feed the horses, and boy do they know when 2pm comes every day!! :)

The Home is open to the public every day from 2 pm until 4 pm, apart from Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Years Eve and New Years Day. The Home will also be closed on the day of the Society's Annual General Meeting.

There is limited car parking at The Home, during Summer months (when it is dry enough) an additional car park is opened at the entrance to The Home. Disabled, elderly/infirm people who do not feel able to make the walk to the stables (less than a 1/4 of a mile) can still bring their cars up to the stables.

Toilets (including disabled) are available in the stables.

Dogs are welcome, providing they are kept on a lead at all times and are comfortable with horses.

Admission is free.

This is a great thread - I'm going to link it to FAQ so keep adding all your suggestions  Next time anyone's stuck for a day out, it'll be easy to find :)
