right. we have had lucy about 12 weeks and we ADORE her :)

she was very clingy at first but settled down a treat and now we are 'crate free off lead happy whippets' which is great. however this last couple of weeks she has become really high energy and a little bit more naughty and high maintenance! she isnt 2 till autumn so this may be like a second puppyhood but she really is behaving like a pup/. its no big deal but have any of you had this behaviour after the settling in period or is this just typical whippet behaviour? my other dog is a whippet x so has slightly different characteristics.

anyway.....as we speak she is yowling on and chattering like chewbacca. she does this a lot. she wants to play ALL the time and is REALLY rough. she can run and run and run and run and even after 2 hours out off lead she doesnt tire! she has started chewing kids toys and eating hairbrushes bog roll etc and not just while we are out....whenever  and is digging the carpets randomly all the time. she really does seem hyper in comparison to what she was. she alsobarks a lot. she will go out into the garden and stand in the middle of the lawn and woof away telling the neighbourhood that its HER house now  slightly worried the neighbours may complain....

she is brilliant offlead, non agressive etc and the most adorable thing but i reckon its time to crack down a bit dont you? a bit more training? she demands to be picked up all the time and my husband and i have not slept alone for 3 months- she actually insists on being directly between us.... o:)

she follows me to the loo.......and is good with pad but gets up and in between us if he is sitting with me. you get the picture? advice welcomed :b

CRATE!

Lucy sounds lovely! A typical whippie.

Ours love there crate, they treat it as their den where they relax. If you make it fun for your dog to be in crate they will learn to love it and stay safe.Plus when u go out you know they will be safe from electricity or food stuff which can prove toxic,.

PS There is a fab book called "Alpha Dog" which shows u as a dog owner how to show your dog that YOU are the boss, not them-pm me if u want a copy

sounds like she has settled in then :- "

crate wise we are back up and running. i took them down a few weeks back but we are back to square one. no probs though they love them anyway

food wise im feeding 'trophy' food which is delivered to our door. theyve only been on it a month and its 22% protein....is that too high? they get homecooked food & chicken wings too. usually complete in the morning and then raw or homecooked at teatime.

advice welcomed :)
