    Hello every one.
I have joined this group solely to interact with other dog owners who have had their beloved pets to sleep
I have recently let my best mate Cooper who was a meek and lovely Staffordshire Bull Terrier.
I am still grieving every day, I miss him so much.
For 16 years he came with me everywhere, garden, car, park, on my bed at night in our motorhome.

    RIP Cooper. xxxx

    I hear you!
I lost my beloved boy 2 years ago, and I still have tears in my eyes when I look at his pictures or find myself in places we used to enjoy. Even though we have a new puppy now, and time is supposed to be a great healer.
The amount of pain and grief now reflects the love and devotion you shared over the years. We pay the price on the tail end - but it's worth it, isn't it?
Talking about my boy, sharing stories, pictures - helped.

Perhaps look up Jenny Jinya on Instagram, and her Loving Reaper series. It may make you cry more, but it's also comforting..

Thank you so much for your kind reply.
My Cooper was fit for his and lovely looking dog.
Pure white,25 Kilos, lived his walks, slept on my bed.
He started having a strange deep cough that graduaiiy got worse over about four days.
We took him to the vet who x-rayed

Continued... X-rayed our Cooper and discovered a large tumor on his lungs.
We then had to let him go while he was sedated.
Poor dog thought he was our for a ride, ended up at the vets and put to sleep.

I'm so sorry for your loss - and we are here for you if you want support. Does it help at all to know that Cooper, thinking he was out for a ride, didn't have to anticipate what was going to happen?

There is a saying, better a week too soon than a day too late. It was a painful but brave decision not to let him wake up to suffer.

And if you feel you need more support, the blue cross has a pet bereavement counselling service - Pet bereavement and pet loss

I am so sorry for your loss. You gave him a wonderful life, and he didn't know anything about the last part. Sadly this is part of companion animal ownership, and it's very very distressing. Feel free to share stories of you and Cooper with us - we are all here for you.

Thank you so very much reply.
The vet said that it would be just weeks if he lived, we couldn't have let him go through that
We did make the right decision,
But it was so painful when he was still walking around and alert.
Thank you so much for your support
    John.

Really sorry for your loss - we can all empathise with you as we’ve all been there. You did the right thing which was brave - Cooper went peacefully due to your loyalty to him. Thoughts with you.

Very sorry and saddened to hear of your loss. My dog is my first but I have had other pets put to sleep and it is very cruel. Do you have any pictures you could share of your beloved pet? Would like to see if possible please.

    Take care.

I'm another one whose dog is my first - but he's getting on, and I'm already dreading the day.... Cooper had a wonderful long life with you. He could have wished for no more.

So very sorry- it's the worst pain. All I can say is dogs live in the moment. His last day was as good as every other he had with you, un-bothered by fear or regrets or any sense of loss. Good owners shoulder all of these so that our dogs can have the best possible lives. That was your gift to him.

I am sorry for your loss. I know you went to the vet not expecting to have to make this decision. But given the alternatives when health start to go, absence passing while asleep, I can't think of a more peaceful way to have let your guy go. never easy, there is never enough time with them, but sounds like you make a very hard but compassionate choice for animal you loved very much.

Thank you all so much for all your kind replies.
It is touching to know that I am not alone when grieving for the loss of a special dog dog.
    My Cooper was a character.
On our own way I loved him and he loved me back.
When I was bent down in my garden he would sit beside me and always liked my face
To me, that was the equivalent of him putting his paw around me
When we went for long walks and stopped for a sit down for a drink, he would always try and sit on my lap.
I have tried to download some photos of Cooper but not sure how to go about it.
Some advice would be really appreciated.
Once again thank you all for your kind posts, I have read them all with gratitude.
Thank you all and please stay safe as you can.
    John.

Thank you so much for that JacksDad.
As time goes by we sadly know the.right decision was made.
He would have eventually suffered painfully, we, nor he would have wanted that.
The vet said that he was a very tough dog to have born the tumour for so long.
