Carrickfergus pound in Co Antrim received 28 dogs in one day towards the end of last week. Most were lurchers/longdogs, both puppies and adults. They are beautiful dogs and appear to be in good condition. Many of them are saluki type. The pound already had a few greyhound and greyhound type lurchers among its inmates. It is a pound where staff look after the dogs well and do their best to keep them alive and get them rehomed or into rescue. But sometimes they just don't have the space (and being a council pound, they can't refuse to take dogs in). The new intake wouldnt be rehomeable until the end of this week. It is likely that some will go to rescues in GB. You can see photos on "Gales Doggie Page" on facebook.

Craigavon pound in Moira Co Down almost always has lurchers in. They have had several bull lurchers for adoption recently. There are some lurchers who have been in the pound quite a long time now

Mid-Antrim Animal Sanctuary has a few black greyhounds, both male and female, for adoption and a blue greyhound who is still getting veterinary treatment for what is left of his ears which were hacked off.

(bbc news coverage of Norman, the earless greyhound, is also on YouTube)

most of the saluki type dogs at Carrickfergus pound are not longer featured on Gales Doggy Page. She only says they no longer need help, but I think they may have been returned to owner or breeder. At least 5 of the 8 saluki mix pups are booked, the brindle bull lurcher was rehomed and rescue places in GB are offered to some of the greyhounds and greyhound type lurchers if needed

Blue is a blue (no surprise there) greyhound cross with wiry coat. He is a young adult and is a quiet dog and good with other dogs. Blue is adoptable from Seventh Heaven in N Ireland
