LOTTIE and BOO

**UPDATED: SEPTEMBER 2013**

Location: Kennels in Norfolk, UK. These girls would love a foster home while they waits for their forever home.

Key Points: Beautiful sisters, great bond, very good with med-large dogs, can chase small dogs, sociable and savvy, good in home, love people, playful and attentive, very trainable, eager to learn, confident, puppy-like, keen on walks.

Well everyone, please form an orderly queue! Lottie and Boo are 2 lurcher cross sisters that have come all the way from Romania to find a loving family to call their own. Some folks know of the current dire situation in Romania regarding stray dogs (please check out our facebook page if you don’t), so these girls are extremely lucky to get out.

Lottie is the lighter of the two and has a lovely floofy white coat, she’s like a fuzzy teddy bear! Boo is the darker girl with beautiful bright eyes and wispy ear tufts. These girls are just beautiful!

Lottie and Boo have always been together and have survived some rough times so we would very much love to see them homed together as well. We will rehome them separately if a perfect home for 1 comes along, but these girls love each other and have a real bond. They are a year old.

~ Personality ~

Generally: Confident, sociable, loving, affectionate, playful, funny, very trainable, biddable, enthusiastic about life, active.

Lottie and Boo are a delectable duo to say the least! They get on superbly together and have a real air of ‘together, we can do anything!’ Together nothing fazes them and they are sociable with both people and dogs. They are very loving and affectionate with people despite their horrible background, and are very content with the run of things here.

Lottie is super friendly with a very lovely, sweet nature. She is still rather puppy-like so is care-free and playful. She’s always making us smile with her sweet antics. Lottie is also very engaging and interactive with people and has already learned a few tricks such as ‘sit’ and ‘paw’. She is very easy to train and very biddable, eager to have a job and purpose.

Boo also has a very lovely nature and is sharp as a tack, very quick to learn and pick up on routine. She will sit for her supper and is learning to sit for her lead as well. She adores being brushed and gets really excited when she sees the brushes and combs come out. Boo can be a bit mouthy if over-excited, but remember she is just a year old and this behaviour is being worked on now to stop. She simply doesn’t know any better as that’s how she communicates to her canine buds.

~ Medical Issues ~

At the moment Lottie has a skin condition that had been diagnosed by a UK vet before coming to our rescue as general poor nutrition and treated by a UK. As such she now has Yumega Plus EFA on her food, and her coat is improving.

~ In the Home ~

Generally: In kennels but familiar with a home, need a foster home desperately, well behaved, share well, very good with other medium-large dogs.

Both girls are currently in kennels, but came from a brief stay in a Welsh foster home so we would dearly love to get them back into foster care again. They miss the home comforts now that they know what they are. If you think you could foster or even home these 2 girls, please do let us know.

When in their foster home, both girls were very well behaved and quick to pick up on the house rules. They share very well and are very amiable. They can be left with each other for company, though both girls are still just pups at heart and will need to be left with tasty Kongs and toys to avoid getting bored.

~ Other Animals ~

Generally: Generally sociable & friendly, can get excited by small dogs running and will chase, best suited for home with no dogs or medium-large dogs only until this issue is overcome.

In general Lottie and Boo are excellent with other dogs and are quietly confident around them. Their one area that needs work is their reaction to smaller dogs that are running about. Right now if Boo sees a small dog running offlead, she will want to give chase and grab at their tail, and Lottie will follow along and join in if given the chance. If small dogs are calm and just sitting around, both girls are fine and perfect with them, even sharing a sofa with them. It is just the offlead running part that gets Boo over-excited. Both girls have been to busy meet and greets and have behaved impeccably well.

~ Out and About ~

Generally: Walk well on lead, recall needs work, quite keen, active minds, would benefit from agility/obedience training.

Both girls can be quite keen and ‘alert’ when walking in rural areas, and we expect they survived on the streets by actively hunting and scavenging. This behaviour will decrease in intensity with time, once they know they are getting regular meals, but it would also be hugely beneficial to channel this intense energy into something more healthy and productive. Both of these girls are excellent candidates for agility training as they are so attentive, amiable and are searching for direction in life.

Both now walk well on the lead and, as mentioned, are very easy to train. Some tasty treats are an excellent way of distracting them if needed. Both are quite confident when out and they are well-adjusted girls. They are both quite active and would benefit from an active home who will give them 2 daily walks and perhaps longer hikes at the weekend. Because of this keenness, these two should not be let offlead in unsecure areas until obedient to recall and a bond has developed with their new owner.

~ Where Are We? ~

Lottie and Boo are currently being kennelled in Norfolk, UK. They can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you will be required to travel to us in Norfolk to meet them.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~

These girls are neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. They also have pet passports. What these girls need right now though is a foster home, and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always in desperate need of new fosterers. It is such a rewarding experience, and costs are covered by the rescue.

If you are interested in adopting or fostering these ladies, you can contact me (Tam) via email: tam@kerrygreyhounds.co.uk, or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs.

There are application forms for both adopting and fostering a Kerry Greyhound, and we will ask you to fill the relevant one in as the first step in the adoption/fostering process. To speed up this process, we recommend you do this before emailing/calling. You can find the forms, as well as further information on our homing & fostering procedures, on either the Adoption Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/adoption.html or Fostering Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/Fostering.html .

Thank you.

Kerry Greyhounds UK is a voluntary organisation based in Norfolk, England. It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds and lurchers, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).

We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK. If interested in one of our hounds, please feel free to contact us via the following:
