why are people who judge at the show, alound to then show there dogs the next day at the same show runing over sat&sun and there dogs being placed. is it fair or fixed!!!!!!!

A good question, :- some times fare, :p and some times fixed, (w00t) I don't do a lot of showing so I'll let some one else help you with an answer. di

Hi,

My husband judges,we never show our dogs on the day he is judging

However,if over the coarse of a 2 day show,we do show our dogs on the other day.

I am sure sometimes faces are picked, but we have never come across this.

If for one minute we thought that was the case,he would,nt judge.

Hope this helps.

I think it needs to be looked at in perspective.

Most shows are for fun and need to be seen that way. I doubt there are any judges that don't own dogs so they are bound to want to join in that fun.

More serious shows, where a cash prize may be up for grabs, well thats a different matter. But saying that judges know each other anyway.

All you can do is to hope that the judges are fair.

I did see a case of stupidity the other week where a young lad would not show his dog as "The judge hates my Dad!" was mumbled. The wife convinced him not to be so daft and he came away with second. It was obvious by the judges body language that there was some tension between the two but at the end of the it's about the dogs and I though all credit to the judge.

Remember 99% of shows are for fun and we are all entitled to a bit of that

showing should be bout fun and judges should be fair but is this all ways the case!!!!! what does it say bout the judge there are many shows over the year to show there dogs in, are they that desprate to win!!!!!

I think you've hit the nail on the head there!!

It isn't just the judges though. I've seen a fight break out between people over results, which although comical, is quite sad.

Whether they be judges or just people showing thier dogs they have forgotten about the fun bit. Lets face it; it ain't Crufts and you could probably buy the rossettes for less than it costs to enter?

Just as a point of interest, I very rarely show my dogs but I really enjoy watching the shows, dogs and the looks on owners faces when they do win.

the judges friends always get placed
Not strictly true, :- I know a few judges, :b but they never pick my bloody dogs,,    I must have crap showing dogs, but thats not what I've got mine for. ( I think i know where your coming from thou) ;) di

the last time I visited Chatsworth one of the judges had there partner and father in law in the puppy champ class  fair dues the judge dropped out but close family should nt of been showing

this years judges at Chatsworth going by the pictures 3 of them were in the last 6 in the champ of champs easy to say but at what was once a prestigious event sadly this should never happen

I always try to be objective about showing as it is such a personal choice on the day but I think it's nice to know that anyone who is judging luchers is also capable of producing a decent dog themselves. The way to know that is for that judge to show their dogs under as many other judges as possible.

I do think it is unfair if handlers in the ring are related to the judge or show a dog which the judge themself has bred. I've seen several instances of this at local shows and it places the judge in a difficult situation because they're going to be wrong whichever way they decide! It is those cases when I believe the dog shouldn't be shown under that judge.

On the whole though I think that judges, certainly at the big shows, judge the dog and not who's on the end of the lead

The last time i shown was back in the 90s, I just started geting back in to lurchers in the last 18month been to a few shows in the last year to have a look see if i wanted to get back in to showing, not shown my dogs yet, I saw judges showing the next day at same show run over 2days back then in the 90s to see this happening now in 2010 has lurcher showing moved forward as some clubs say!!!!! I cant say all judges pick friends but yes it still does happen has it did back then, there are a few good judges out there who do look at the dogs and not the faces of the people. I think the clubs and the people puting on shows play a big in all of this should they be looking further a field for there judges!!!!! and put the f back in to the fun and fairness of lurcher showing.

Totally agree!! Get the judge in from a completely different area

Yes you could get judges in from a different area  but would that not give winners from a different area?

I believe the judges at SW Terrier and Lurcher Club show last week were from Cheshire, although not 100% sure, and local dogs won on that occasion.

Unless it's a big show, I shouldn't imagine many people will travel that far out of their county to show their dogs.

having been in dogs a long time and judged a few i think if you want to judge then you cant show no matter about the event, also it shouldnt matter about the upper end of the lead as its the lower end youre there to look at :clown:
