Whippets and greyhounds are pure bred dogs. Lurchers are a type of dog. A lurcher is any sighthound crossed with a non sighthound. E.g. greyhound x collie or bedlington x whippet. But there are lots of lurchers with lots of different breeds in them, but still a lurcher. Like greyhound/collie x bedlington/whippet.

But when 2 sighthounds are crossed together they are called longdogs. E.g. greyhound x whippet or saluki x greyhound or a mix of both crosses is still a longdog. :))

i think someone answered this question a while back...

lurcher = sight hound (whip or grey) crossed with a non sight hound breed (collie, beddy etc)

sight hound crossed with another sight hound (whippet x greyhound) = long dog

as for physical appearance, anything goes :D with whippets and greyhounds, the size and head shapes are different, but with lurchers it depends on what the cross is...whippy x beddy 's tend to be rough coated, and there are some gorgeous ones owned by people on here

Can't add any more to Lalena or sighthoundlover but here's a pic of my whippyxbeddy Inca
