Many of you will remember the saga of Mabel, who wickedly seduced the innocent Alfie on the 46th (!) day of her season. :- "

Well, I took her for a scan tonight, and in typical awkward Mabel fashion, nothing is ever simple...

There are definitely black 'blobs' on the scan- I counted at least 6! but the scan man- I didn't take her to the vets- this chap scans sheep for a living and is VERY accurate said that they are not as developed as he would expect given the date she was mated.

So... either she didn't conceive for several days after she was mated OR she is reabsorbing the puppies, but he doesn't want to say for certain until he has scanned her again.

So we have to go back again in a week's time for another scan. She can't just be simple and straightforward can she? So it's another week of biting my nails, waiting for the result

Vet said exactly the same with Ella, said she was a week behind the EDD i'd said but i knew when she was mated and she went 1 day over her first mating and bang on date for her 2nd, at 4 weeks you can see the spine apparently but Ella was 5 weeks when she was scanned and you could just see like you say "little blobs".

Sure everything will work out ok!

46 days though, you gotta laugh, you just know she'll have a belly full!

I never had a bitch scanned, my vet does not believe in it. But I had bitches that at 5 weeks looked totally normal (not pregnant) and delivered 7 large pups. Maybe the sheep man does not have much experience with Whippets?

Here is picture of my Bess 6 weeks pregnant with her 3rd litter, carrying 6 big pups. Week before this photo was taken you could hardly see any sign of pregnancy. I always thought that is because she has them tucked up under her ribcage, but maybe whippet pups are quite small at that stage.

:luck: :luck: :luck:

(w00t) Oh Mabel! :- " :luck:

Poor you Liz. What an agonizing wait! (w00t) Bet Mabel doesn't know what all the fuss is about :- "

Liz, there is a good greyhound vet we go to in Oxford who might give you a second opinion. I know of a couple of whippet breeders who go there, so they might have a better eye for sighthound reproductive matters.

Bob the scan man Liz went to is very very accurate, all the dog people use him in this area. But if you had seen Mabel galloping full pelt around the field last week pregnant she is not, so she should have 8 (w00t) (w00t) (w00t)
