Interested in finding out more about this lovely girl? Please read on…

Well, form an orderly queue please! Maddie is a 4 year old greyhound girl who is now looking for a forever family after she was chucked out of the racing world. She is a beautiful girl with a super soft blue-brindle coat and bright, expressive eyes. Maddie is in lovely condition and is a picture of health. She is 28” to the shoulder.

~ Personality ~

Generally: LOVES people! Affectionate, loving, teeth-chatterer, playful, engaging, social.

Maddie is a people person, no doubt about it! She loves people to bits and is clearly absolutely delighted with herself now that she’s in a home environment, surrounded by people. She loves getting fuss and attention and is extremely affectionate. She’s a leaner, a nose-nudger and a teeth-chatterer. The latter is especially adorable as it’s like petting a rather large chipmunk with all the nattering that goes on!

The only downside to her love of all things human is she does need some boundaries put in place or she may get a bit too clingy. But that is not something especially difficult to do, and we also think that her need for human contact will become more relaxed once she realises that she’s in a home for good, and not as a temporary treat. Maddie is a lovely, confident girl and will work for love and treats. She is a beautiful pooch both inside and out, and we can't wait to see her in her forever home.

~ In the Home ~

Generally: Housetrained, will countersurf, ok to be left, ok with dogs, great with kids.

Maddie has been in her foster home for a month now, and is doing really well. She’s taken to the home life like a duck to water, and has no issues at all. She is confident, adjusted and, if you haven’t already realised, LOVES people so much! She shares her foster home with 4 teenagers and loves them all to pieces. She greets visitors with a big waggy tail and friendly face. She is a fabulous family dog, goofy, young and playful though she hasn’t yet learned that toys can be played with. In the house, Maddie does nave a cheeky side and will countersurf if food is left out. This can easily be overcome with training and she is getting better at it. She is completely housetrained and quiet through the night as well as when left with canine company.

Maddie is sharing her foster home with 4 other dogs as well, and though she is happy with canine company, its clear that her real love is people. She can grump sometimes at the resident female dog, but has not shown any follow-through, she just likes to grumble. She loves having a bit of a run-around with her doggie friends in the garden though.

~ Other Animals ~

Generally: Generally dog savvy, assertive with females, enjoys playing, learning about small dogs.

Maddie is generally good with other dogs, but can be a bit ‘in your face’ on occasion which should be gently corrected. She doesn’t go far enough as to cause a scrap, but is confident and assertive and likes to get respect from her fellow canines. If she feels she’s not respected, she will grumble about it. We don’t feel this is a huge problem at present, just something to bear in mind if she is meeting another high-status female. She is sharing her foster home happily with 4 other dogs and really does love to run and goof around with them in the garden. She is a typical confident female and prefers the boys to the girls! As such she would be perfectly fine to live with another, perhaps more laid back dog who will just walk away if she grumps about something.

Maddie recently attended our annual hound walk and meet&greet and behaved so very well. She loved getting so much fuss and was very happy to settle and snooze during all the bustle of the center. She can get over-stimulated by small dogs running around her offlead, but is generally ok with them especially if everyone is on lead. This will also greatly improve as she gets more used to seeing small dogs. She is not cat friendly.

Please note that the muzzle she is wearing in this photo was just a precaution as she was a newcomer to our rescue, but it was not necessary.

~ Out and About ~

Generally: Walks well, very friendly and social, good in car, needs recall work.

Maddie is a moderately active girl who right now is burning off excess steam by playing with her canine buds. She is currently getting an hour’s walk a day and is content, though would welcome a little bit extra as well. She walks well on the lead and doesn’t pull. She also seems ok with busy situations, and travels well in the car. Maddie will need lots of work on her recall and small dog socialisation before she can be let offlead in public areas, but it is definitely within the realms of possibility.

~ Where Can I Live? ~

Maddie’s love of people makes her very suited to life as an only dog should the right home come up. She really would love to have 1 human all to herself, but again the attention she gets should have some boundaries that are gently enforced to prevent her getting overly clingy, a trait that can lead to separation anxiety. She adores kids and would be a great family dog for children over 8 years of age. Maddie can also live very happily with another dog or two, preferably males or un-assertive females.

~ Where Am I? ~

Maddie is currently in foster care in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you may be required to travel to the foster home to meet and collect her.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~

Maddie is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

If you are interested in adopting Maddie, you can contact me (Tam) via email: tam@kerrygreyhounds.co.uk, or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs.

There is an application form for adopting a Kerry Greyhound, and we will ask you to fill it in as the first step in the adoption process. To speed up this process, we recommend you do this before emailing/calling. You can find the form, as well as further information on our homing procedures, on the Adoption Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/adoption.html.
