MAGGIE

Maggie is a lovely black greyhound lady who is approx. 8 years old. She has never raced but was used for breeding in the UK for several years before being lucky enough to be found and taken in by a rescue in Ireland. The owners of this rescue decided they couldn’t part with and kept her for 4 years, but now unfortunately both owners are very ill and will soon be going in to care, meaning they must close the rescue and rehome what pets they have.

Maggie is a delightful, very special girl, and is quite the character. She is quiet and can be a bit timid, but when she knows you she relaxes and her true personality shines through. Maggie isn’t the brightest dog in the world, bless her, but she makes up for this with the amount of love she gives. She just adores being fussed and petted and truly adores people.

Maggie has few flaws is perfect on the lead, excellent in the car and loves to run but... she has no brakes and can run headlong in to fences or walls if not called before she reaches them! She has reasonably good recall. She has never understood what "fetch" means but will occasionally run after a ball if the others are playing with it, though she doesn’t really know why she's doing it! Because she was reared and kept outside, she was not house-trained when she first came to the rescue, and although she is very much improved, she still has the occasional accident. This can be improved on with a bit more training and routine, which can be difficult to have in her current home.

Dear Maggie is great with other dogs of all shapes and sizes, and is also well behaved and trustable around the cats she shares her home with. She is perfect with ‘her’ cats in the house, but as with all dogs, care will still need to be taken if introducing her to unfamiliar cats in her new home until she bonds with them.

Maggie has a lot of scars on her body where it looks like she has been bitten by other dogs. Her owners have discovered that her skin is extremely thin, even for a greyhound, and so tears at the slightest nip when playing with other dogs. Stitching her skin is a problem as it just tears, so her owners always keep her in a fleece when she’s playing with other dogs, and during the winter to help minimise her injuries. She has been seen by a vet, has no known medical problems, and has a very healthy appetite.

Maggie is now looking for her new forever home, but has bonded very closely with another lurcher girl, Suzie, and we would dearly love to home these two girls together. Suzie ‘minds’ Maggie and they have a beautiful little relationship that we don’t want to end if we can help it at all. If you would like more info on Suzie, just email me.

Maggie is currently in a home in Co. Roscommon, Ireland, and can be transported to the UK if a suitable home offer comes up. Please note that adopters will need to travel to our nearest collection point to pick her up. She is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

If you are interested in adopting the marvellous Maggie, please email me on tamakin_84@yahoo.co.uk for our adoption application form and information pack. Emails are usually replied to within 24hrs. Thanks!
