I've thought long and hard before I have put up this topic. But as the site moderator I feel that I have a responsibility to the forum to ensure that any discussions held that are of a serious nature are conducted as fairly as possible.

There is nothing wrong in anyone having a different opinion to anyone else, the world would be a pretty boring place, if we all thought the same. It's also fair to say that everyone has a different sense of humour, I should know as mine is very very warped. However, what one person finds funny, another person would be offended, upset etc etc. Sometimes it takes new members a while to 'get to know' who is who and the humour especially can seem to be a bit barbed, sarcastic, until they realise it's ok with the people involved (Dawn/Jax conversations are a good example, all of which are conducted tongue in cheek).

It's also essential that if people are making any kind of judgement or passing an opinion on something that has appeared in the press, that judgement or opinion should be based on some kind of FACT, not just on hearsay/gossip/speculation of someone else. It can be very damaging to the injured party if they are cast as the villain, whether it's emotional, character damaging or even financial, when something has no basis in fact.

Not sure if people are aware but if not careful something that may be put on K9 could become libellous, when it is not true and can be proven to be not true. It is not slander until it is published but the internet is an accepted medium of publication. Now we don't want the lawyers making a mint of money out of this.

All I would ask is that people take note of the above and also remember that when you become a K9 member you agree to adhere to the rules of the forum.

We are all protective of our breed/s be it Iggies or Whippets and that's how it should be, but let's raise issues and debate them properly, with passion, but also with fairness to all who may or may not be involved.

Thanks for reading this and all comments are very welcome if people want to take me to task on this. Replies will be answered straight forwardly (maybe even bluntly)!

my opinion is that theres are some folk on this site who ought to keep their opinions and assumptions to themselves.too many are ready to jump in and condemn folk without knowing any of the true facts.and its not the first time its happened.i think its a shame to have to tell everyone all about ones personal circumstances in order to justify what one is doing.at the end of the day its none of their business,no matter what they may think.one day they will learn that the hard way, through the courts.just my personal opinion

Thanks for that Kris, and that's exactly the point, no one should feel that they have to justify things by giving out very personal and intimate details, it really is an invasion of their privacy and one which they should not have to do.

Have I missed something or are you being general Jan?it's just with it being in the Iggie section  I read most things i am such an anorak

Don't get me wrong I aggree with what you say I just wondered what brought it on :)

I suppose I do mean it generally, but as I am the Moderator the Iggie forum, that's why I put it there.

What brought it on, was as a result of a lengthy conversation I had recently. I meant to post something similar a while ago when there was one particular topic that caused a furore on the forum and it was very sensibly closed. If I had been around at the time, it would have gone on then, but still think it is relevant for today and to remind people of their responsibilities as reasonable human beings.
