I have a 16 month old German shepherd male. Amazing with all dogs had never shown aggression, until..... Went to a dog party where there was 1 other male shepherd bit bigger, and all rest bitches. They were all playing football, getting on great ,all of a sudden my dog and the male clashed and started fighting badly we had to split up, I'd never seen this behavior from my dog! Now they had met before and the party was at this dogs home turf...but usually when we are out walking together my dog is the submissive one... They are both around the same age and are both entire males... The other dog then lost interest but my dog had to be leashed and was lunging snarling and really wanted to fight, we had to leave.
Is this normal? Was it due to the ages and both being male and dominance issues? And the fact there was bitches around? I'm just worried now that this will happen on walks and become a regular thing. Was really horrible to witness.any advice??
