Just been to see the new Irish film, Man About Dog. It is set in the so called (w00t) (w00t) murky world of greyhounds, both racing and coursing. It is absolutely hilarious, with some good coursing scenes, although the greyhounds are muzzled in the South when they course. I am a bit biased because my lurcher Alfred   was used in the general scenes of country fair lure racing, and is in a scene where he is meant to be the travellers dog!!

It is due for release on mainland UK the end of October, I went to see it in Dublin, but I don't know how the coursing scenes will go down  given the current anti bloodsports climate

Maybe some of you folk will go and see it and give me an unbiased opinion!!!

Regards,

Janet :luck: :luck:

Nice one! I'd not heard of this film but will now look out for it! :)

Here's a better one, Alfred   is the little grey hairy one :p

Regrads,

janet

I'll look out for that. I don't normally 'do' films because I have the attention span of a grasshopper and don't like sitting in the dark watching TV etc. I think the last time I went to the cinema was to see The Horse Whisperer!!!

I hope Alfred got paid mega-bucks!!!

>I don't normally 'do' films because I have the attention span of a grasshopper

Due to a combination of old age and too many whippets. :- "

I'll look out for the film too. Perhaps if there's a video released you could let us know.

Nah! Always been like it!!! If the film drags on a bit I start thinking about other things and then lose the plot and then get bored and start fidgeting!!!

Hello dukie, who are you? The reason i'm asking is that i'm from Northern Ireland and a few of my friends also travelled down to the south to be part of the filming for the lurcher racing. I was invited to go also and bring my dogs with me but because they kept changing the days the filming was going to take place due to the weather i didn't manage to get the time of work. All who went down had a brilliant time and are looking forward when the film is out in the north. Do you go to any of the lurcher shows in the north?

Hi Dazgail,

I couldn't get off work to go to the filming so Alfred was taken down by some friends, and yes they all had a great time :p :p

I go to some of the lurcher shows but am involved in running the Tandragee show each year. I have mostly whippets, Alfred, salukis and a couple of terriers, what is it you have??

Regards,

Janet

 Hi Janet,

We have probably met at some stage at one of the shows. I wasn't down at the Tandagree show this year but was at the previous two years. I own two dogs, both of which are whippet/greyhound and the two years i was down at Tandagree, Maddy, one of my dogs won the over 23" racing. The show's in Tandagree are very well run and the trophies are some of the best i have seen at any of the shows in Northern Ireland. Any chance of getting your hands on a copy of the film as i know many would love to watch it?

Darren

Dazgails,

Sent you an email but I don't think there will be copies of the film for a while yet

Regards,

Janet

Does anybody know when it is on in cinemas and if there are any trailers available for viewing on the net? I've looked everywhere but I can only find listings in Ireland.

It's due to be out in Londons West End at the end of October begining of November, and then presumeably general nationwide UK after that, we haven't had it in Northern Ireland yet, hence my trip to Dublin to see it!!

The only trailer I was able to view was on an RTE site, which included some critics giving an interview and then a short clip, but no dogs were in that clip :( :(

If I can find out any more I'll post any info I have :D

I'm begining to behave like an over proud mother   and Alfreds only on the screen for about 50 seconds!!!!

Regards,

Janet

Just wanted to say I have had no luck whatsoever trying to find this film on at the cinemas :( I've googled everywhere but no cinemas in the merseyside area have shown it. Shame really because I'd of thought as it was from the maker of lock stock and two smoking barrels it would be a winner. Anyhow I'm just posting to ask if anyone comes across it on DVD can you let me know?

Thanks Jacqui

As soon as there is a dvd available I'll let you know!!! I did search for cinemas in the Uk that were showing it, but only got cinemas in London and I think it was only during the London film festival.

Regards,

Janet

Is it actually available to rent now? only last time I looked it wasn't. I'm really surprised that no-ones selling it though, I've been googling for ages and the only thing I've ever found was the possibility of it being available to rent.
