seems to be a lot of dogs in rescue , i should know , i work with them ,, sick of seeing innocent dogs being put to sleeo so i wrote this poem and put it up at work ,, see if it makes people realise ,, which i know it wont ,, thought id share it with you ....

:b THEY ROAM THE STREETS , COLD AND ALONE,

NOT KNOWING WHY THEY HAVE NO HOME.

THEIR MEMORIES WANDER TO DAYS GONE BY ,

AND LET OUT THEIR PITIFULL , MOURNEFULL CRY.

LAST WEEK HE WAS LOCKED IN A GARDEN SHED ,

NOT KNOWING 7 DAYS LATER HE WOULD BE DEAD.

7 DAYS ,, I HEAR YOU SAY ,

YES MY FRIEND , THIS DOG IS A STRAY.

CAUGHT BY THE WARDEN , ALL HE WANTED WAS A FRIEND,

NOT KNOWING HE WAS BEING LED TO HIS END.

THE POOR LITTLE FELLA JUST WANTED TO PLEASE,

8 YEARS OLD AND RIDDLED IN FLEAS.

HIS OLD OWNER COULDNT BE BOTHERD WITH HIM,

SO OUT HE WENT , LIKE RUBBISH TO THE BIN.

TOO OLD TO BE TREATED FOR HIS ILLS,

VETS CHARGE A FORTUNE FOR THE PILLS.

SO START AGAIN WITH A NEW PUP,

NOT LONG NOW , THEY WILL MESS THIS ONE UP.

THEY LAY ON THE BARE STONE FLOOR , AWAITING THEIR FATE,

THIS WILL COME TO THEM ON DAY 8.

SO SPARE A THOUGHT IF YOU CAN,

THEIR ARE LOTS OF DOGS LIKE THIS LITTLE MAN.

PLEASE DONT CONDEM YOUR DOG TO A PITIFULL END,

AFTER ALL , HE WAS ONCE YOUR BEST FRIEND :b

I WISH ALL DOG OWNERS WERE AS KIND AS ALL OF YOU ON K9 ,,, YOU SEEM TO DO A LOT OF WORK GETTING THE RIGHT HOMES FOR YOUR DOGS AND TAKE GREAT CARE AND PLEASURE WITH THE ONES YOU OWN ,,, WELL DONE YOU LOT :huggles:

Thats a lovely poem, made me feel quite tearful Wish i had a huge house id take in loads of strays. Makes me so angry :angry: that alot of people just dont see animals as we seem to here on k9.

They are our friends, members of our family, Yet some people just see them as objects I really cannot understand it.

I was so upset recently as in our local paper there was an article about a dog left shut in a shed for god knows how long, (in owners garden!!!!!!!!) and it was left so long it was found dead by RSPCA! :rant: ...............

What makes me so much more angry and upset that it turns out it was down OUR ROAD! :rant: :rant: t wasnt printed what the number of the house was or anything so i havent a clue who it was but it really got to me that this poor dog was down my street somewhere suffering........If only id of known i could of saved it

Saw a programme explaining how dogs are bred for eating in asia, where they batter them with sticks so the adrenaline (Through fear) then makes them taste better.

A dog farmer stated, who are you to criticise me when you farm cows !

Think a dog is a working animal, sadly theres sick bastards out there who don,t respect them.

A mans best friend, humans don,t deserve that accolade, sometimes.

you are all so right ,,, id do the same ,, if i won the lottery i would buy the biggest place and look after them all ,, i dont work in rescue now but when i used to it really got to me ,,, thanks for your replies

Hi Saraquele,

Have pm'd you details of dog saving web sites like www.dogpages.org & www.lurcher.org which do their best to save dogs being pts in pounds by finding a rescue or foster homes so they can be assessed & found loving permanent homes.

If you are still in contact with your rescue/pound ex bosses please pass on the info so the poor little blighters can be saved.

Whippynit you must have been devastated to think the poor dog was so close and you could have saved it if you had only known it was there.

One day I WILL get somewhere big enough to let me foster dogs so they can be found permanent homes & have a few more of my own!

I don't know what to say about Asians who beat dogs to make them taste better - words fail me!

sadly, if you read the figures that the Dogs Trust have, a huge number of dogs end in just this way! I got a package from IFAW this morning, with a leaflet and pic of dogs across the world needing desperate help, the pictures made me feel sick! there was a puppy who had boiling water poured over it as a punishment, all its little head was just raw skin, and dogs with no fur left because of untreated mange, their bones sticking through their skin, just lying waiting to die. I saw a pic not so long ago on Dog Pages of a dog like that, and she wasn't in some far off country, she was in Ireland! it makes you laugh to think that humans consider themselves the superior species.....or cry.

I wish they had a tit for tat code for cruelty to animals so the people treating them like that got a taste of their own medicine!
