Unfortunately after much deliberation and mixed emotions we have decided to call it a day at Manton Whippet Racing Club. We would like to thank all members past and up to the present day for all their support over the years. The support at the beginning of the year on our new track was second to none but sadly as opens started and football got hold on the field it has become increasingly more difficult for us to carry on, with more football matches and less dogs club racing we feel it is time to bring the club to a close.

Sadly our last scheduled meeting this morning had to be cancelled due to the snow and icy weather, so i will do my last bit of reporting for Manton WRC and put on the annual points winners for 2010.

As can be seen it was decided prize monies would be paid out to the points winners this year to run down the clubs funds and as people who ran with us also know we have doubled up on prize money for the last few club meetings too. The remaining £120.00 that is left in the club will be donated as added prize money to Shirebrook Staff WRC's first open, as we feel this way the money is going back into whippet racing.

All prize monies will be paid to all winners as we see you, promise we won't leave the country

See you all soon, bloody hell i'm getting all emotional i've been running here since i was 7 yrs old and now its no more :( the end of an era !!!!!!

:luck: To all from The Manton Girls (Pat, Karen, Sadie and Kim)

We have had some good raceing at manton wewill miss it .But can see why you have decided to close. And you have just stared the 4 generation . :)) Thank for all the hard work you have done over the years .Kath /Dennis Louise and Grace

Well its all over for Manton WRC sad and happy all in one, sad because its the club we have run as a family for all these years but happy because these last few weeks have been a nightmare trying to work round the football so it just didnt feel worth all the hassle when we have some good clubs around who actually want whippet racing and dont just see it as a past time, we can now go and enjoy our racing and help other clubs without the stress  Well done all the winners of the points see you all soon

Sadie, Bobby and Izzy

sorry to hear this we enjoyed racing here @ the begining of this year and thankyou 4 letting us race and train our pups there. a great track too but if football is taking over then its not worth it.

It's not the end Karen, cause while ever the 'Manton Girls' are running whippets, then Manton lives on  although we will have to change it to the 'Manton lads and lasses' as the family grows  Big thanks for Duke's winnings  George say's he wants to match the amount and buy a trophy for Shirebrooks 1st open, and if it's ok with Chris and the rest of the family give it in memory of John

A sad day indeed Manton is were we first started and learned a lot from its members, Lynda was afilliated to the B.W.R.A. trough Manton up until last year. This club produced some of whippet racing's all time greats. Les + Lynda

sorry to hear manton as had to close ,it's the same at newton aycliffe regarding football we have to fit racing in around the football matches, ;)

Scarey Kath but its the 5th Generation now as my grandma used to run at Manton too, got her first racing whippet when she was 72 years young and used to come racing until she was around 87/88 (w00t) So maybe i got a few more years racing in me yet lol

sorry can not go that far back only been running from 1988

So sorry to hear that you are having to close Manton but I do agree that you do not need the hassle. As you already have said, at least you can enjoy your racing now at places that welcome you. Thank you for all you have done for the sport over the years, if it were not for the dedication of people like you we would have nowhere to race.

Karen, I think George's idea is lovely and I am sure Chris would be honoured to have a memorial trophy for John.

:( So sorry to hear of your decision, but can fully understand the reasons for it. We all know how your family have struggled to keep the club going and have admired your efforts. We have always been made welcome when we've raced there and it is such a shame that it is no more. Thankyou for all your hard work and hope you all keep racing and don't lose heart! :luck:

O we wont ever lose heart its in our blood this bloody whippet racing cant get rid of it lol we just keep breeding into it

 That's good to hear. Our sport cannot afford to lose people like the members of your family. :D
