Over the last few weeks Digit has really got into his teenage stride (w00t) culminating in a man being very threatening to me in the park yesterday.

it is totally true that Dij (and Audrey for that matter) were barking at his dog ........ although this was 'come and play' rather than teeth bared aggression. However, i do appreciate that he wouldn't necessarily know this, and it must feel intimidating to have the pair of them woofing away at you..........and the man certainly paid this back in spades

But i do need to do something about it - Dij has become much less reliable in his recall - if there is something that has attracted his attentio.

I'm looking at a two pronged attack - firstly, Dij needs to be castrated anyway (lil crypto boy that he is!) so now would be a good time

I've also been looking into a Masterplus collar as a way of getting him to focus on me again.

Neither of these are cheap and unfortunately this problem has come to a head just when i have a great big hole in my finances!...........I've just found out i've been on emergency tax code since january and it's taking a while to sort out :(

So, i thought it was worth asking if anyone has one they would like to sell on? or if anyone local to me would be prepared to lend one, to see if it helps? I've looked into hiring one, but to be honest it isn't any cheaper - you still have to find the majority of the cost upfront.

here's hoping someone can help

have u tried a really loud squeaky toy kept in ur pocket, or even the inside of the squeaky so its not as bulky to carry, blues recall isnt all that good and that seems to work for him that way he thinks he is getting to keep playing rather than getting brought away from the good fun that he wants with other dogs then just give a small treat when u get him back so its good to come back

good luck in getting him sorted

Thanks chelle ......... and other lovely K9ers who have been pm-ing me

Looks like no one wants to sell a masterplus (they MUST be good then lol!)

but have had some great advice. This morning i made myself a pocket rattley thing - with an old mustard tin and some mung beans.

And as far as walks go, we're back to basics - leads only i'm afraid. Progress so far; Dij barked at the man playing tennis (odd, coz he doesn't usually bark at people) quick shake of the tin by his ear and he stopped.

Then a walk round the lake and encountered a collie playing off the lead; cue silly whining then barking - another shake of the tin, silence, bark - rattle, bark - rattle.......Give up! (Dij, not me!)...........will let you know how the next walk goes!

Couple of questions now for those of you who use shakey tins or squeeky distractors...........when is the best time to pounce - do i rattle when he first starts whining? or wait til he barks?.........the whining usually preceeds the barking, but not always.....sometimes it's just a whinge ie look mum, that dog is allowed to play..........!

Also I'm wondering what to do about other stuff he barks at - namely squirrels and crows! I obviously need to decide the rule and stick to it - but i'm not sure which way to play it. I don't mind him barking at squirrels and crows - but will it be confusing for him if he is allowed to bark at these but not dogs and people? ....

what are your thoughts people?
