A bit late with reply but had comp upgraded and been off for a while. Went on hols to Coniston and and while we were there, we went to the westmorland show. They had a huge attendance and the countryside alliance asked me to show the dogs in the main arena so that the public could see various breeds of working dogs and learn a little more about hunting with dogs. Clarissa and the countryman were there supporting and I had the pleasure of meeting them both! I think that people were very supportive and I was glad to see that the countryside alliance was showing that it's not just foxhunting that will be affected. To be honest, I've been peeved that the media have mainly focused on foxhunting, I know that this is probably the biggest and most financially involved area but I wonder how joe public would feel about other aspects of hunting. Most folk think foxhunting is the sport of the wealthy gentleman and there may be resentment due to the stigma associated with this. I think that's maybe why the media failed to mention the bloke who goes hunting for a rabbit for the pot as this may appeal to the atypical working class labour image that was so popular to them during the coal mining era.
