Trying to update the address on Oreo's microchip but it's proving some what difficult.

I have found out it is registered with pet log however they require a petlog Id (which I haven't got) along with the microchip number. I've contacted the RSpCA where we adopted Oreo but they don't have any record of the pet log id number.

Pet log won't talk to me without this so I am stuck. Any ideas?

You could ask your vet (or rspca/local dog warden etc) to scan him, which should give you the chip number.

Yes it is. I have the microchip number and spoken to pet log but to confim that I actually own the dog they also need the petlog ID which would be on the certificate. Except I wasn't given one.

The only details RSpCA have is the microchip number.

The RSPCA can change the chip over without having the certificate- all registered rescues can.

If you have all of your paperwork from adopting him at the RSPCA then I'd go down there and see a manager and ask them to explain how you are meant to do this when it's something that only rescues or registered owners can do.

Pet log are now saying it's not one of their microchips.

I'm so confused! lol

Anyway here's a link for those wondering who manufactures your dogs microchip and also what database it will be on, as aparently it's too simple to just have one national database we need 5 or 6!

Finally a bit of success.

After speaking to petlog and then another company (that petlog suggested the microchip was with) I then phoned petlog again to speak to a lady who seemed to understand my issues.

To cut a long story short, Oreo was registered on their database under her old name (Lisa) and I assume still registered to the RSPCA. Bascially they hadn't updated the database as promised.

So the lady has put my details in temporarily just incase Oreo goes missing.

I've got to submit proof of adoption along with a signed letter so that they can update the microchip!

Finally a result! lol

Oh my goodness what a palaver!!! At least it's fiiiiiinally sorted :)

Maybe the RSPCA keep animals chipped to them so that they will know if they ever go missing? I know some rescues that prefer to have their animals chipped with their details in rather than the owners'.

When I was breeding Siamese kittens, I used to leave my number as one of the contact numbers on the chip whilst adding the new owners as the main contact, I then kept a record of all their chips just in case....

I dont see why the RSPCA cant do this by now?
