right heres the thing, place near me doing microchips for free now my dogs are 12 year old there running and hunting days are over my garden is well protected they are walked well but onlead all the time never left in garden alone so question im asking is it really worth chipping two dogs into there twelve year?????

The government have announced that microchipping all dogs is compulsory from 6th April 2016, with fines for people found responsible for an un chipped dog after that date. Now as far as I can see it depends on what you feel. Presumably if your dogs are always fully under your control I don't think anyone will check if they are chipped or not, but if by chance they did then you would be liable for a fine.

I would just for peace of mind that if anything ever happened and they somehow got out and didn't return for any reason, they have a permanent form of ID where you could be found and they could be returned to you

And if they're doing it free now's as good a time as any
