Just wondered if anyone knew a good spray to put on to stop midges biting? The last few nights I have been out with Megan for her last walk , I have been getting eaten alive with midges. It's driving me mad  I have heard that the Jungle spray isn't too good :- "

Avon Skin So Soft

Either the blue or the green

I even use the shower gel at this time of year to avoid them if poss!!

The spray oil is fantastic just rub it on all skin and they stay away!!!!

The army even use it!!!! (w00t)

i use tee tree oil and never get bit

Avon Skin So Soft. I used it and really noticed a difference. I passed it round to a few sceptical members of my OH's Mountain Rescue Team on a camping trip once, and they raved about it :p We are talking Scottish midges here afterall :sweating:

Avon Skin So Soft

Rub it into your hands and then smooth it over their bodies and head/ears - just don't get it in their eyes.

chewing strong menthol gum on your walk also seems to help ward the buggers off

Thanks for all the suggestions :)

I have tree tea ointment in the bathroon cabinet so will put some of that on tonight and have ordered some of that Avon Skin so soft. The guy along the road was scrathing away like a monkey as well last night when he was out with his lab :- " Apparantly they don't bite everyone only certain blood types, or so the woman in the chemist said today  If that's true I must have that certain blood type then  I have been scratching all day from the bites from last night!!

Ooh did you mean put Skin so soft onto the dogs?

I posted about this a few weeks ago kirsty, cos we're going to Ullapool on holiday in August (we'll be eaten alive!! (w00t) (w00t) ).

Avon S-S-S was recommended a lot, and someone else suggested we use citronella spray on the dogs, I think you get it from an equine supplier or somewhere like that. (*** Edited to say - I meant, the S-S-S was recommended for us to use, but if it works on the dogs as well, all the better. I've ordered some from my friend, she does Avon).

Plus my husband bought a load of garlic capsules cos we're told if we start eating them a fortnight before going on hol (not much good for you tho kirsty since you're already there) then midges don't like the taste of garlic. or something. I'm still excited about the thought of Scotland for 2 weeks though. and I'm getting a midge hood!!! :D :D

Please let me know what works for you and I can pinch your ideas

Thanks, Gill

Hi Gill,

I meant for me :- " I will certainly let you know what works  I ordered from the Avon website they are doing two of the s-s-s for £5 just now plus £3.50 p&p. The Avon lady I know is on holiday for 3 weeks so that's why I ordered from the web. I could have saved on the postage if i had got it from her :- " I stay in Edinburgh and live near woods so we have loads of the horrible things  Hope you enjoy your hols where about in Scotland are you coming to Gill?

The Avon one is good I use it on my horses.

love the photos of the horses shane.

Kirsty, we're going not far from Ullapool.

Sorry Gill,

After re-reading your post I realised you already told me where you were going  Never been to Ullapool. You'll need to take loads of pics and post them on K9  Hope you have a nice time.

Gorgeous horses Shane, lucky you :)
