MIMI
Mimi is a 5 year old ex-racing greyhound girl who has come to us to find her forever home. She has run an amazing 75 races in total and is most definitely deserving of her retirement home now! She is a lovely black girlie who is in beautiful condition and is a bit larger than the average female.
~ Personality ~
Mimi is a beautiful lady and although technically a large dog, she is in no way imposing or boisterous. She has been nothing but the mannerly, perfect model greyhound since entering foster care in March. She is well balanced and chilled, enjoying the simple things such as her daily walks and nap times. She does not jump up at people, and can be safely taken to homes where there are elderly/disabled. She is a confident, placid, affectionate girl who adores being around people but isn’t in your face about asking for a fuss. She is content to simply be in your company. When in a strange environment, providing she has a duvet/blanket to curl up on, she is very happy to be part of the gathering and lie contentedly.
~ Medical Issues ~
Mimi has a Grade 1-2 heart murmur but it does not cause her any problems. She is fully insured and has been seen by a vet. The murmur should cause this lady no problems for many years as long as she doesn’t severely overexert herself.
~ Other Animals ~
Mimi is generally very good with all other dogs and enjoys being in their company. She can get a bit overexcited at times, such as when dogs come to her home or when lots of small dogs are running around her, but she will respond to corrections and calm down. It is best to watch her with small dogs at the moment as she is still learning about them and their limits. There is no aggression in her but her play can turn a bit too rough for a small toy breed’s liking. This is sure to improve as she gets more practice at gentle play.
~ In the Home ~
Mimi is a star in the house. She has been completely housetrained from day one, is not destructive and does not counter surf. She does, however, have that very ‘greyhoundy’ habit of stealing random objects to collect them in her bed. She never chews the items, just likes collecting them. She also has the unusual habit of liking to sleep in the bathtub! Mimi is quiet as a mouse at night and doesn’t cause any fuss. She is fine to be left with other dogs for company and has been left completely alone for up to an hour with no complaints. This could be worked on and expanded if she were to be an only dog. She can jump the child safety gate in her foster home if she wants to, so a home with decent sized fencing will be a must for this girlie. We feel that Mimi is quite versatile and would do well in a range of home types. She could go to a home with other dogs, but would be equally happy as a single dog provided she got her daily ration of love.
~ Training & Responsiveness ~
Mimi is very responsive to basic training. She rarely does wrong, simply stealing and moving minor items. She can become a bit unnerved if loud voices are used, or if approached too quickly and suddenly. Her fosterer’s have found that Mimi is very responsive to a quiet ‘no’, and does not need much more firmness than that. Mimi is a foodie and has a very good appetite – she has eaten her fosterers out of house and home! She will listen very intently if you have a tasty treat in your hand.
~ Out and About ~
When out and about, Mimi continues to be unflappable. She is a beautifully dependable girl and greets everyone and everything with a wag of her tail and a sniff.
She walks very well on lead, knows her name and responds when called. Although very good on recall in familiar surroundings, more work needs to be done outside her own home/garden. Like many sighthounds, Mimi can run at great speeds and should not be let offlead near a busy road. Mimi will not need a huge amount of exercise - she will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead once or twice a week.
It is a delight to be in the company of this “cheeky girl”. She loves her new found freedom, is very loyal, loves the sofa, company, travels well, being groomed and will make a fun companion.
