MITZI

Mitzi is a 6 year old greyhound lady. She is a little black girl who's coat is lacking condition at the minute. This will greatly improve with some good food and TLC.

Mitzi has had a harsh life so far, and has the scars to prove it. She is a very timid, sensitive girl who is wary of strangers but once she knows you will offer you gentle affection. She needs some work to improve her confidence and get her used to dealing with strangers. This little girl will improve with time and patience, and with the right owner she will come out of her shell and start loving life. Mitzi is good with all dogs, large and small, though is not cat friendly. She is currently in foster care where she has started getting the TLC and love she so desperately needs, as well as getting used to living in a home environment for the first time. :)

Mitzi is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and a home check will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

**UPDATE 04/2010**

Sadly Mitzi was adopted but is now being returned to us as she has proved too strong for her elderly adopters, one of whom has to have knee surgery so will be unable to walk her.

Little Mitzi has changed quite a bit from the nervous, stressed girl she was when we first got her. Her previous adopters found her to be quite well behaved in the home, calmly greeting strangers coming to the house and loving any attention they gave her. She wasn't overly nervous when out on walks, only being wary of sudden loud noises. Now that she's come out of her shell, Mitzi loves her walks and enjoys getting her daily exercise.

Mitzi seems to have mixed reactions when socialising around other dogs. She happily shared her foster home in Ireland with several other dogs including small terriers and other greyhounds. However she seems inexperienced in meeting other breeds of dog when out on walks, and new owners need to be aware that she will require some training and socialising in this area. With some consistant training and patient repetitions, this behavour issue will improve.

Ive met and walked this girlie myself and found her to be a well behaved girl on the lead, paying attention to what i asked of her. She is quite petite for a greyhound and has lovely little white flecks in her coat, adding to her character. She got on fine with the other greyhounds i walked her with and bonds very strongly to 'her' people, trusting them to keep her safe if she gets scared. Fingers crossed this sweet girl gets her forever home soon as she has had a very tough life so far, being used as a breeding bitch to produce litter after litter for several years.

Mitzi is now in Norfolk, UK where she waits for her forever sofa.

**UPDATE 05/2010**

The lovely Mitzi is still waiting for her forever home. We would like to home this girl sooner rather than later as she has been moved around quite a lot over the past few months, and she deserves her forever sofa to settle down in. She is currently living in a foster home in Norfolk with four other dogs including a small terrier and doesn't have any problems with them. She is clean in the house and settles well during the night. She loves her food and eats well, but isn't a counter surfer and doesnt steal.

Mitzi's only real problem is that she doesn't know how to react when meeting other dogs out on walks. She tends to get over-excited and anxious when she sees them in the distance and this can lead to aggression if it's not controlled. This issue is being worked on in her foster home now, and she is improving all the time. She is fine and well behaved with dogs she knows, its just when meeting unfamiliar ones out on walks that she can get worked up. She also walks very well on the lead and can be distracted from approaching dogs and even cats if you have the right kind of tasty treat! Mitzi will need owners who are prepared to continue the training of her fosterer and help build her confidence and manners when greeting other dogs.

With time, patience and consistant training, this issue can be resolved, making Mitzi the most perfect companion! She is a very easy dog to have in the home, and adores getting fuss and attention. Could you offer this older sweetie her chance for her forever home?
