MOHICA

**UPDATED: DECEMBER 2012**

Location: Kennels in Norfolk, UK. Mohica would love a foster home while she waits for her forever home.

Key Points: Loving, active, cheeky, fun-loving, playful, walks to heel, good with other greyhounds.

Meet the smashing Mohica. She is a 3 year old greyhound girl who has spent all her life so far in kennels, but has never raced. She is a gorgeous shiny-coated black girl who got her name from having a wee little mohawk running down her neck! Mohica has huge big eyes that are very expressive, and is in good condition.

~ Personality ~

Generally: Fun-loving, intelligent, mischievous, adores people.

Mohica is a fabulous little character, full of beans and bright as a button. Though a bit quiet and shy when you first meet her, once you’ve become acquainted, her little personality shines through. Its very fitting that she has a small mohawk on her neck, as Mohica has just the right amount of spunk and cheeky mischief to keep you on your toes whilst providing daily laughs. She is guaranteed to keep you smiling, and really is incredibly loving and endearing. She really adores people and getting a big of fuss, and is always looking to you for the next fun outing.

~ In the Home ~

Generally: Not currently in a home.

Mohica has not technically lived in a home, though her previous owner used to let her into the kitchen during the day. As such, she is relatively familiar with the sights and sounds of a home so we don’t think it will take her long to settle. In keeping with her cheeky streak, Mohica knows how to open doors and one of her favourite pastimes in her previous placement was raiding the kitchen for cheese! As such it might do no harm to install some baby-proof handles until she learns that not all food is hers!

Mohica is such a delight to have around. We can’t wait to introduce her to toys as up until now she has made do with stones and bits of sticks to play with. When she gets her first squeaky ball she’s going to be so delighted! This girlie is going to be a fabulous addition to a moderately active household who will keep that mind of hers nice and busy and out of mischief!

~ Other Animals ~

Generally: Fantastic with other greyhounds, small dogs & cats still to be assessed.

Mohica is very good with other dogs, though so far we have only seen her interactions with other greyhounds. Mohica is used to sharing her space with several other greyhounds and really enjoys their company. She loves running with them and playing ‘tag’. Because she has a fairly active mind that likes to keep busy, we think she would be best in a home with another young playful dog present so they can romp together and wear each other out. We will be assessing her sociability with small dogs and even cats over the next few weeks.

~ Out and About ~

Generally: Walks to heel, interested and curious, good traveller.

Like most greyhounds, Mohica will not need as much exercise as one might think. She will be content with two 30min walks a day, a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area a couple times a week, and some ‘garden zoomies’ at home. She walks well on the lead and travels great in the car. Mohica has not seen much of the big wide world around her, so may need a bit of time to adjust to busy or built up areas, but she would adjust to any situation.

~ Greyhounds as Pets ~

In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly.

~ Where Am I? ~

Mohica is currently being kennelled in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to us in Norfolk to meet her.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~

Mohica is vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. She is not neutered yet but this will be carried out before she goes to her new home. This girl would greatly benefit from being in a foster home, and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always in desperate need of new fosterers. It is such a rewarding experience, and costs are covered by the rescue.

If you are interested in adopting or fostering Mohica, you can contact me (Tam) via email: tam@kerrygreyhounds.co.uk, or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs.

There are application forms for both adopting and fostering a Kerry Greyhound, and we will ask you to fill the relevant one in as the first step in the adoption/fostering process. To speed up this process, we recommend you do this before emailing/calling. You can find the forms, as well as further information on our homing & fostering procedures, on either the Adoption Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/adoption.html or Fostering Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/Fostering.html .

Thank you.

Kerry Greyhounds UK is a voluntary organisation based in Norfolk, England. It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds and lurchers, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. KGUK operates through a network of volunteers spread over Ireland and the UK. We can look after approximately 30 dogs at any one time in both kennels and foster homes.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).

We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK. If interested in one of our hounds, please feel free to contact us via the following:
