Glad Vicky brought up the suject of prefix/affix as been meaning to ask your advice on this for a while. Planning my first ever litter next year with the main intention of increasing my own stock. I intend pups to be KC registered. Have not got my own afffix, (a showing friend told me that this is not strictly necessary) and I have no further plans to breed any more dogs after this litter. The lady providing the sire is affixed and she also bred my bitch for me. (therefore believe the two dogs both have the same affix) Will I be entitled to use her affix in this case or would this be a no no? What is a prefix please? Am I responsible for naming all the pups myself before they are registered? My breeder registered the KC names based on the customers chosen call names once these had been decided upon; Is this normal practice? Sorry to sound so ignorant to all you pros out there but have concentrated so much of my research towards the actual breeding process itself that this subject has been put on the back burner somewhat. Your advice very welcome, Cheers Shaz

Sorry should note that this should have appered in the General discussion Whippet section

if you only want the one litter, its not worth getting an affix. it costs around £70 initially, plus £15-£20 ish a year to keep it.

the only person/people allowed to use an affix, are those who 'bought' it, so you cant use hers.

go to the kennel club website, and on the left scroll down to registration forms. then go to form 10, which explains about affixes, and costs. hope that helps

If you do go down the affix route then be prepared to field at least 20 to 30 names before you get yours. You would be surprised what names have already gone. That is why you see a lot made up of peoples personal names.
