Located in the South Eastern corner of Northern Ireland, Mourne is a land of diversity, stunning views , dramatic landscapes of natural beauty, stone walls and a patchwork of green fields . These golden treasures all lie in the arms of the majestic Mountains of Mourne that sweeps down to the Sea. Situated in the heart of these picturesque surroundings, running alongside the stunning coastline between Newcastle and Kilkeel, was the venue for the Annual Mourne Lurcher, Terrier, Whippet and Strong Dogs Charity Show on Sunday 20th May 12. Mourne was truly a brilliant Dog Show, a day to remember, and will be strongly etched on my memory as one of the best Dog shows and Family days out of the year. I met up with so many old friends, and also made some new ones. I had a very relaxing conversation with the Great Game fairs of Ireland Director Albert Titterington and his lovely wife Irene. It was nice to speak to Albert out of work, because when Shanes Castle comes on stream on the 7th and 8th of July, Albert will not have much time to talk to anybody organising all the great events at this top Game Fair. All the showing, digging, strong dogs, and racing ran like clockwork without a hitch. The sun shone too late in the evening, and I am sure there were some tired little people on the night and some grown ups also. I know how I felt when I got home. Fell into chair and fell asleep.
There was a very big attendance at this show, with top class dogs of every breed. The show got under way at approx 12.00 Noon. Here are the results of the showing as follows. ( Joanne, thanks for all the results )

Digging Competition
There was a real buss of excitement around the field, when the Digging competition commenced. As soon as that whistle blew to start the digging competition, shirts and tea shirts were ripped off and thrown in the air, then with shovels and pik axes in hand, digging commenced. As the large crowd cheered on their favourite teams, these guys, one and all showed no mercy to the ground beneath them. With the sweat running down their brows, they dug ferociously to the whistle blew once more signalling the end of the dig. The digs were measured, and the winners were announced.
A big congratulations to Team 2
This was Peter Morgan and his team mate Damian Maguire. Peter and Damian, you both are too strong men, and very worthy winners. Also a big congratulations to all the rest of the team diggers. You were all winners and gave us all so much entertainment and enjoyment on the day. Many thanks for that.
And what can I say about the judges who done a brilliant, but difficult job in the ring . There were so many top class dogs there, they really had their work cut out for them. Thanks for a job well done. And what would we do without our photographers, who were there to capture the happenings of the day. The two men whos names I did not get, please forgive me for that, and the one lady resident show photographer Bluebell ( Deidre Mc Coy ). Many thanks to the three of you. You bring so much pride and joy into our lives looking back over these photographs in the long cold winter nights. Hopefully all the photographs will be up soon for all to see. Some racing pictures up already on Hunting Life.
And Finally, May I take this opportunity of thanking Kieran and his brilliant team of helpers for a most enjoyable and relaxing day out in majestic surroundings. Without you people none of this would happen. Thank you most sincerely for the presentation you made to me. It was such a surprise, so unexpected and from the bottom of my heart so much appreciated. And I am saving the best for last. Kierans show did not only give us all so much enjoyment on the day, but on top of that the following Charities will benefit from the proceeds of this great show. What an achievement in itself.
Macmillan Cancer Support will get £700
Mourne Community Rescue Service will get £ 200
This money means a lot to these charities,
For Macmillan this revenue will go towards making some poor persons end of life a little more comfortable and painless, as they pass from this world. Cancer has knocked on many of our doors during our life times.
Mourne Community Rescue Service speaks for itself. These people have saved many lives in the past and will in the present, with their brilliant rescue techniques in our hour of need.
Kieran and team thanks again for a great family day, and I am already looking forward to next years show, God willing.
PS. Kieran announced at the end of the show , that he intends running a Race Day only, later in the year in honour of a dear friend and show goer who died of Cancer earlier this year. This was a request from the deceased before he died. Proceeds will go to a Cancer Charity.
