Hi all, I am clipping the first photo of five pups born yesterday afternoon -- how nice of mom to pick a mid-day whelping time! -- in the short space of an hour between 1 and 2 here at Avalonia. Dam of the litter is Eng.Ch. Nevedith Ceefa Ceely (Eng.Aust.NZ Ch. N. Rare Rogue x Eng.Ch. N. Justa Jenie), and sire of the litter is Cdn.Ch. Avalonia Edradour (Cdn.Ch. N. Local Lancer x Cdn.Ch. Avalonia Barbados).

There are 4 males and 1 female -- the female is the pup at the top of the picture with the mahogany brindle like her dad. As we have a long waiting list of excellent homes for males -- we are thrilled. All are strong and healthy, goodsized, squealing puppies.

And since the pups were born on Australia's national day we have taken this as a sign that the litter should be named after places in Australia! :D

Congrats on a very pretty litter.

Love, love love those suggestions. We have Oz relatives and my brother got married in Australia after meeting his future wife on a cruise ship destined for Australia after he finished his masters degree in limnology and decided to explore the Great Barrier Reef for the southern equivalent of our northern eco-system.!

There is also the fact that Noreen Harris imported Ms. Ceely's sire to Australia years ago and as far as I know N. Rare Rogue children are all over the southern hemisphere -- as well they should be given the excellence of his bloodlines. His children -- returned to the UK -- have done astonishingly well for Jessie McLeod, as well they should have. We have, ourselves, a male dog -- Cdn.Ch. A. Reckless Rogue out of Ceely sired by Fin.Swed.Cdn.Ch. Scheik's Ardbeg Avalonia -- that we honestly think is better than his grandsire -- and those are huge shoes to fill.

I have two sets of really excellent opal earrings from Coober Pedy -- one set that my brother brought me and one set that my parents picked up for me in the early 90s when they too visited Australia for four weeks, and I am heir to three pieces of aboriginal art from Woolora that my parents bough and brought back.

We need four really good boy names and one excellent girl name. We will likely keep the bitch, simply because we always keep males and we added up the number of boys vs girls of breedable age and discovered we have a distinct deficit in females that are under 7! -- but that said at least of the boys are headed to show homes -- one in Canada and one in Germany and we are content. We would be thrilled with authentic Australian suggestions!

Oooh goodie I was hoping you would ask. Loved hearing about your Australian contections Lanny.

It's a pity you won't be needing a name for a blue as they don't come more Australian than "Tru Blue"

Am off to out my thinking cap on. Congratulations on the new litter. I hope you will keep the photo's coming :cheers:

a sign that the litter should be named after places  in Australia!
What would you prefer Lanny - just place names.... ie Cunnamulla

or place names with quirky additions like "Cunnamulla Fella" (a song by Slim Dusty)

Does your ruling body place a restriction on the number of letters + spaces you're allowed to have in the name?

Here's the lyrics to the Australian version of "I've Been Everywhere" by Lucky Starr

(with my favourite words in bold).

Well, I was humpin' my bluey on the dusty Oodnadatta road,

When along came a semi with a high and canvas-covered load.

"If you're goin' to Oodnadatta, mate, um, with me you can ride."

So I climbed in the cabin and I settled down inside.

He asked me if I'd seen a road with so much dust and sand, I said

"Listen, mate, I've travelled ev'ry road in this here land."

Cause I've been everywhere, man,

I've been everywhere, man.

'Cross the deserts bare, man;

I've breathed the mountain air, man.

Of travel I've had my share, man.

I've been everywhere.

"Been to . . "

I've been to Tullamore, Seymour, Lismore, Mooloolaba ,

Nambour, Maroochydore, Kilmore, Murwillumbah ,

Birdsville, Emmaville, Wallaville, Cunnamulla ,

Condamine , Strathpine, Proserpine, Ulladulla ,

Darwin, Gin Gin, Deniliquin , Muckadilla,

Wallambilla, Boggabilla, Kumbarilla,

I'm a killer.

I've been everywhere, man.

'Cross the deserts bare, man;

I've breathed the mountain air, man.

Of travel I've had my share, man.

I've been everywhere.

"Yeah but listen here, mate, have you been to..."

I've been to Moree, Taree, Jerilderie , Bambaroo,

Toowoomba, Gunnedah , Caringbah, Woolloomooloo ,

Dalveen, Tamborine, Engadine, Jindabyne ,

Lithgow, Casino, Brigalow and Narromine,

Megalong, Wyong, Tuggerawong, Wangarella,

Morella, Augathella, Brindabella , I'm the feller.

I've been everywhere, man.

'Cross the deserts bare, man;

I've breathed the mountain air, man.

Of travel I've had my share, man.

I've been everywhere.

"Yeah, I know that, but have you been to..."

I've been to Wollongong, Geelong, Kurrajong, Mullumbimby ,

Mittagong, Molong, Grong Grong, Goondiwindi ,

Yarra Yarra, Bouindarra, Wallangarra, Turramurra,

Boggabri, Gundagai , Narrabri, Tibooburra,

Gulgong, Adelong, Billabong, Cabramatta,

Parramatta, Wangaratta, Coolangatta , what's it matter?

I've been everywhere, man.

'Cross the deserts bare, man;

I've breathed the mountain air, man.

Of travel I've had my share, man.

I've been everywhere.

"Yeah, look that's fine, but how about..."

I've been to Ettalong, Dandenong , Woodenbong, Ballarat,

Canberra, Milperra, Unanderra, Captain's Flat,

Cloncurry, River Murray, Kurri Kurri, Girraween,

Terrigal, Fingal, Stockinbingal, Collaroy and Narrabeen ,

Bendigo, Dorrigo, Bangalow, Indooroopilly ,

Kirribilli , Yeerongpilly, Wollondilly, don't be silly.

I've been everywhere, man.

'Cross the deserts bare, man;

I've breathed the mountain air, man.

Of travel I've had my share, man.

I've been everywhere.

I've been here, there, everywhere, I've been everywhere.

"Okay, mate, you've been ev'ry place except one,

and ya don't need my help t'get there . . ."

I love this thread, lovely puppies and some great sounding names, can't wait to see what you decide Lanny. My favourite for a little girl has to be Waltzing Matilda, but what a great name Wagga Wagga is.

I don't breed as I keep only dogs but I would really enjoy naming puppies.

Jenny

Coolgardie Girl - having said that though it does sound more like a racing name than a show name.

Places names and a couple of their meanings

Mintaro

Flinders

Wilpena

Amaroo = it means lovely

Euroa = means joyful

Wollamai = Look Out!

Narooma = Magic

Other Aborginal words with a meaning that might work

Bodalla = running

Dundundra = rapid

Gillerbri = Moonshine

Goondiwindi (pron. Gun-da-windy) a place on the border of Qld and NSW. From here came a racehorse called Gynsynd - one of the greatest ever and a childhood hero of mine. They called him "The Goondiwindi Grey" - now I'm sure I saw a little "grey" person in the litter?

And from the song by Tex Morton (for which I CANNOT find the lyrics) so, from memory....

'They cheered him from the grandstand and they cheered him from the flat

They cheered a little beauty, a real aristocrat

.........can't remember............... a survivor all the way

A horse we're really proud of, The Goondiwindi Grey'

Kirribilli - on the shores of Sydney Harbour - where the Prime Minister has a house called Kirribilli House

images

Jerilderie - famous for Ned Kelly's visit and the Jerilderie Letter

Jerilderie

Jindabyne - (love the sound of the word) - in the snowy mountains.

"Jindabyne: The original town and its inhabitants were relocated in the 1960's when the Snowy River was dammed as part of the Snowy Mountains Scheme, with only a handful of houses being moved to their new location. The remains of the old town lie submerged under Lake Jindabyne and can occasionally be glimpsed when lake levels are low." Wikipedia

Coolangatta - "Coolangatta (28°10′S, 153°32′E[1]) is a suburb of the Gold Coast with a population of approximately 4000[2] people, located in the southernmost part of the Gold Coast, in Queensland, Australia. It is named after the schooner Coolangatta which was wrecked there in 1846." Wikipedia

There is also a movie called "Coolangatta Gold" about the premier surf lifesaving "Ironman" event of the same name.

Gundagai .... 'and the dog sat on the Tucker Box, five/nine miles from Gundagai'

five or nine miles - depends which version of the poem you read. :teehee:

Just getting ready to do a round of early morning dog let outs and play sessions, collect their laundry and get that in to the wash and then I am going to come back in and start reading all these fabulous selections -- very carefully! I love the authentic names, I love the aboriginal names (my parents have several nice pieces of aboriginal art my brother bought in a gallery back in the late 60s... supposed to be a well known/well respected aboriginal artist so I am going to have to go see who it is) ad I love the quirky names you can associate with, and only with Australia. We have to submit three choices for each pup registered with the Canadian Kennel Club, but the first name is normally the choice accepted. So picking the top 5 and then the top 15 is going to be a difficult treat.

The pups are off to the vet today to have their first good look over and have the dew claws removed. We always like our vet Kevin Bacon (not the actor, but just as ruggedly handsome) health check all pups. It gives us that added confidence as we start to sort out good homes for the pups we will place, that the pup started out life well. We will also book their first shots and tattoo today for sometime 8 weeks down the road.

Thanks for all the suggestions. We are going to have terrific fun with this!

Can't I rely on you for that? :lol:

And wasn't "I've Been Everywhere" a good attempt?

What about Kirribilli House ? And the Jerilderie Letter ? They're south ... south of Qld anyhow, maybe not as far south as you! :teehee:
