Hi everyone, I was just interested in knowing if there are many single people who have more than 3 dogs living with them?

Was just wondering if you cope ok especially those of you who have to work full time?

This question has been prompted by a friend who told me she couldn't cope with her dogs if she didn't have her other half and that she didn't know how I will manage being single and having multiple dogs so was just wondering if I was the only one out there!!!

I had 3 dogs when I lived by myself and never had any problems just made sure I excersised them in the morning (no matter what the weather) before work and never left them for more than 4 hours so home at dinner and excersise again in the evening on the rare occasion I couldn't get home at dinner time my sister or friend would spend an hour with them

I have 3 now as a single person, but had 5 when my son was growing up, so was a lone parent of a young child too, I coped fine, but there again I do...some people cope some people don't!

My Sister in law and brother had to change their sons nappy together as neither could cope alone :wacko:

I'm not single, however i do all the looking after, walking,feeding,grooming,mending,clearing up after all of our dogs.

At weekends if my husband is around, we walk the dogs together then but during the week it's just me and I work a full time job and a part time job.

Until recently we had five dogs but now we have four(soon to be five again when I find another beagle baby)and to be honest it's no problem other than having to walk separate walks now so the oldies and the youngster both get their required exercise.

Hi, yes multi dogs in a household does work, but you do have to put alot of time and effort into it walking etc, my girlfriend looks after 5 gets up at 6 walks them 1 at a time usually takes 2-3 hours and the same again in the evening, Emma finds this routine works well the dogs they are happy content and very fit and so is Emma she roughly walks 10-15 miles a day, and has lost 7 stone in the last 3 years

I have 3, only work part-time. I used to walk no more than 2 at a time, but now I walk all 3 (I'm no Emma -- also sometimes I like to give them good long walks 1-2 hours). When I lived in a flat and had to walk dogs more often as well as separately, it seemed like I did nothing but work and walk dogs!

If I had 4, I'd walk 2 lots of 2 dogs and the ones left would have company. But if you want to train them you really need to devote more time to working with the dogs individually. I couldn't cope with more than 4 without feeling that they were being neglected - and/or having to keep some dogs in outside kennels (this depends on the size of your dogs and your accommodation)

We have 5...

2 Dobermans, 2 Huskies and a whippet.

They all go out for a run at least once a day and walked most days. I can singly handedly walk all 5 but its a challenge. I always walk them at times of day where others arnt about. The huskies are on leads dragging me along and the other 3 run about and hover around me.

I dont work full time so it makes it easier.

I went from living alone to moving in with my partner with 4 dogs... made things interesting!

hi there im single and have 4 dogs all mad as hatters and i manage to walk them all on my own every day (or do they walk me :lol: )anyway i manage and i have two boys that pull like hell and im only little 5ft lol

Thanks guys for taking the time to comment on my post, you have given me hope!!!

keep the post coming if it applies to your situation, I'll let you know how I cope, I have 5 by the way!

I have 10 whippets (w00t) and walk in 2 lots of 5 , but wouldnt have any dogs If I worked full time . Im lucky to have my sister nearby who lets the gang out if me and OH should get delayed ( we very rarel y are out together :lol: )

i would just add that I work full time and have a part-time job but my full time job is shift work and the dogs are left for four hours every morning until my husband comes home for lunch, then as he goes back to work after lunch i'm already on way home at end of shift so they are left for about fifteen minutes after lunch.

i work part time job on a Saturday but husband is at home then.

don't let full time working put you off because we set up cctv to see what the dogs do when we are absent and they mostly just sleep and play musical chairs lol.

I was the same as you Lynne,,,got up early took the dogs a long walk, about an hour,,then left for work,,I got home, fed them, let out for the toilet, back to work. I did have a friend who lived a few doors down, he had a key and if I was late getting home, he would let the dogs out.

I had 3 dogs at the time.

When I worked on the farm, the dogs came with me to work,,they loved it, but very smelly/ stinky,,so had a bath about once a week.

It can work out,,if you can get home/ or someone lets them out for you.

That's good to hear!!!!!

There are two of us here and my husband works full time, as do I, but I am based at home and fairly free to choose my own schedule.

I do everything for my 8 dogs - feeding, exercising, tidying up after them (LOL), poo picking, shopping for dog food etc! 6 live indoors and 2 outside.

I also manage, although goodness only knows how, to look after 4 cats (2 which live indoors permanently) and 3 horses here at my place and another 2 horses that I keep down the lane in a farm field.

The advantage I have is that I am lucky enough to have 3 acres of my own land which means that the dogs always have the luxury of running around whenever they want which means that if I don't have time to walk them I don't have to worry :thumbsup: .......... but I still have to exercise one of the horses as I keep him in and fit for racing :wacko:

So, all in all, I reckon you'll be fine with you 5 dog family although you may find yourself a tad on the busy side :- :thumbsup:
