My Shiba is driving me nuts as he keeps going out into the garden and eating compost out of flower pots etc . I thought it might be because he was changing his coat and was hungrier that usual but I gave him extra food and it didn't make any difference . Any ideas would be greatly received .

u can find that when a dog is lacking certain vits and minerals that it will find something in nature that contains them and eat it, its the same as a bitch eating their puppys poo cos of all the goodness that wasnt absorbed by the pup.

is it a natural compost or one with chemicals in it? if its natural and its not making ur dog sick i wouldnt bother too much about it, u could try half a ground up multi vit and mineral in with its food and see if that stops it.

on the other hand it could just be that ur dog is a minger and likes the taste (w00t)

let us know how u get on hunny

Yes he is a minger (w00t) and eats cats **** whenever he can :x but I had wondered about the vitamin deficiency though . Last summer he started to eat bark chippings in the garden and he had just ignored them before so we removed them and now he is eating compost and dirt . The compost is general purpose but bark based .
