My dog is 4 years old and eats his dog food with no problems! However if he eats the slightest bit of anything other than dog food he throws up. I have obviously stopped giving him anything but his own food and he is fine but occasionally he might pinch something. Should I take him to the vets?

He maybe has a really sensitive tummy.

A lot of what your dog digests (and us too) is actually digested by the bacteria in our gut. That's why the probiotic yoghurts are so popular, they support that bacteria.

Dogs tend to eat one food, with few variations. So the gut bacteria get used to digesting just that. Throw in something different, and the bacteria can't cope.

You could try a few things - some people swear by live yoghurt, others argue the probiotics don't get far enough along the gut to help - worst case, it can't do any harm.

You could keep him only on his own food.

Or, you could add a little bit of something different, once or twice a week to start but steadily building to more regularly, to try to train his gut bacteria into digesting a variety of things (that's how our human digestive system works).

Thanks so much! It's seem to have got worse over the last 2 weeks since our puppy arrived. He literally had 1 Chip earlier and threw up all his dinner. I will try what you suggested and see what happens x

In that case, if you have one massive change in his life (the puppy) I'd try to keep everything else as stable as possible for now.
