Hi all,

I wanted to ask on here whether any your dogs have experienced what mine has over this last week.

It first started off with frozen tail which the vet said will go away on its own or we could come back for further tests. Within 2 days my dog Bear was back to wagging his tail like normal. During the time he wasn't he was very quiet and just looked like he felt very sorry for himself. I assume it would of been to do with the fact it hurt to wag his tail.

Then when i picked him up from his doggy day care on Thursday they said that he hadn't been himself all afternoon. When i got there he was quiet, head wobbling like he was dizzy or something, then he struggled to get up and when standing still kept falling over and twitching. He wouldn't respond to his name and his eyes were all over the place like we had just spun him round and made him dizzy. his head stayed low as he couldn't lift it up properly either and when he was on the vet tablets he urinated very slowly all over the table. Now being a house trained dog he tells us when he needs to go.

When the vet checked him over he could barely move his legs and when she touched his joints we could see he was in a lot of pain. He couldn't bend his legs properly and his back legs were very unsteady.

When walking he was stiff but seemed OK for a very short period of time when they got him to walk.

The vet took him over night and ran some blood tests and put him on a IV drip and the tests came back OK, there was nothing in his blood?

By the morning he had perked up and by the evening he was back home with us acting like a normal dog.

he is now limited to a 15 minute walk a day and we need to build that up gradually.

The vet said it could be meningitis, pio- something arthritis (sorry i couldn't remember what she said) or even worse a rare condition called Myasthenia Gravis which apparently attacks the nervous system.

They tested for Addisons disease which came back negative, and they have given him some tablets Prednisolone 5mg & Ceporex 250mg.

Today he is like a different dog but is getting tired quickly.

Anyone experienced this with their dog? the vet is baffled over what is wrong with him?

any help, advise or anyone that knows of this in their dog please share your thoughts.

Thank you x

:flowers:Hiya I have beagles and the tail pain and unwillingness to wag or lift it is common in beagles, called Limber Tail, think its caused by the bum and tail getting wet and cold so the muscles at the top cramp and are painful, usually goes away inside a week. This may not be the case with your dog as he has other symptoms too.

With regard to your dogs other symptoms my old girl was wobbly on her back legs, would not lift her head up, couldn't/wouldn't poo (would not sit down) painful to arch her back to poo. turned out she had damaged a disc in her neck, was very painful, steroids painkillers and cage rest and she was good as new in a few weeks.

Sounds like your vets have been thorough with your boy and you should stick with what they recommend as they are the ones examining your boy and can see the symptoms for themselves,

I hope he continues to improve and is back to normal soon xxx

thank you for your comments! he is perking up slowly so clearly his steroids are taking effect but he isnt his normal self just yet.

fingers crossed whatever it is is nothing serious x
