I am getting married next month and I still don't know what to call myself, Darryn surname is Allen and I don't want my intials to be AA!

Although I will be Alayna Allen in the normal world I want to keep my Morland name in the dog world, especially as the dogs are already joint Dufty, Morland and Morland!

What do you all think?

Alayna

You could just call yourself Alayna Morland-Allen

Best of luck with the wedding :luck: :luck: :luck:

I wanted to take my husbands name. Most importantly i wanted to have the same name as my son. He was 11 months old when we got married. I suppose not everyone is bothered by these things though! :)

I can understand you keeping your maiden name for the dog world, it would be a trial changing all the dogs over. I know quite a few people i work with have kept their maiden name for work but changed it for everyday use- they say it isn't too confusing!

I haven't changed my name at all. I was 36 when I got married and much too used to my own name. Sometimes it becomes a little tedious having to explain to people "yes we are married but I kept my maiden name" but other than that it's all good. I use his name (Hill) when ordering pizza or a cab - it's much easier for people to 'hear correctly' first go and know how to spell than 'McCrindle'.

Using two names can be a bit of a worry legally - with your driver's licence and bank details and work details (for pay etc). I found that if I became Lana Hill at work then basically I would be Lana Hill in all respects because my bank details had to match my work name etc. It might pay to investigate with the KC what difficulties you might encounter if you become Allen in all your documentation but remain Moreland as far as the dogs go. Eg Legally you'd Allen but you'd be signing certificates and registration papers as Moreland - would that be troublesome, legally?

I guess a lot depends on how your husband feels about you not taking his name but ultimately the choice is yours.

congratulations and best of luck with the wedding :luck: :luck:

I wanted the same surname as my children but i think the double barrel works really well

Alana, keep your name. The best thing anyone has going for them is their own good name, given to them at birth by loving parents. I have never changed mine though I have been married twice. Think about the possibility that not everything necessarily lasts forever however optimistic you may be now. But the name given to you at birth was there before the marriage and carried you into adulthood.

In the province of Quebec, here in Canada, married couples must in law keep their name. Their kids may be double barrelled names but not Mom and Dad.

I know exactly what you mean Alayna .

After being Jackie Crosby for many years ( and always will be to most of my whippet friends  ) upon remarrying I decided to keep it in with my new name of` Whitaker` I was going to be Crosby -Whitaker , but OH wanted to have a show dog and show it ,( Montee) and if Id been Crosby -W then we would have been benched at opposite ends  , so W- C it was  as Dawn calls me

All my dogs are registered as W-C ( at NO cost to me ;) ) and I sign the forms as such , but the cheques that go with them are just `Whitaker` ,no problem there then

AS regards every day life ,Im Jackie Whitaker , but my bank will cash cheques to either Whitaker .. Crosby or a combination of both , The only cheque I had to get changed was one addressed to`Jackie Mulcair ` :b

Regards your little boy and any other off spring you might have :teehee: Ill leave that one up to you :huggles:

oh Alayna, bless you, you little sweetheart, you are a mum now and about to become a wife - you longer exist as Alayna Morland now anyway (w00t)   (JOKE!!!)

I like my name, its mine!! so understand how you feel, I'm not married cos I like being me. Also, I don't want to rush into anything and me and Wayne have only been together for 15 years, it's still early days :- "

But the kids both have his name, even Lewis, who is 3 years older than our relationship  ;)

Seriously, if I get married I would just change it straight away, get it all done in one go. It is far too easy to get hung up on details that one day you'll look back on and think were not that important after all  your surname doesn't change who you are

Anyway, you are about to become a 'legal' family unit, be proud of that!

And your whippets couldn't give a monkey's whose name is tagged on the end of theirs :huggles:

good luck :luck:

keep your name dont get married cheaper allround (w00t)

Sometimes I sound a right old codger but I say become Mrs Allen, you are all the same family, all have the same name, especially as you have such an unusual first name anyway, I don't know anyone else called Alayna, I think most doggie people would recognise you by just this name alone. Of course you could always be Alayna Triken Allen. :teehee:

I hope you're not missing any shows to attend your wedding.

That is really interesting, but what happens when two people with double barrelled names get together, what do their children do then?

Good luck for the Wedding :luck: I would double barrel your name too, but what does your OH think?

Why not all become Morland-Allen if you want to keep your name. I liked Marks surname better than mine so it was an easy choice for me. :- "

I understand that the vast majority of the children born of these unions take the name of just one parent..usually the father, but in some cases sons take Dads surname and daughters Moms. A friend who lives in Quebec tells me that so far the few kids old enough to have double barrelled names are basically being given one name mutually decided by the parents.
