Please help. I hope its ok to post the following pictures. We have over the day or two discovered some scabs with small black bits around Ted's neck area. He hasn't been seen scratching or in any discomfort, even when we are having a good look at them. There are about 4/5 , a couple under his chin and others on his side of the neck and back of the neck. We have not changed his food, been on raw since Jan. His soft collar has been the same brand since we bought him, an Oscar and Hooch and is not tight. He wears a Mendota slip lead which is quite thick and soft.
They do not smell, can be picked off but then it looks red and sore..so we have not continued with this atall. He is not bothered by them. We have checked for fleas, no sign..
Could it be a sudden allergy? They are not getting worse nor are any new ones appearing. Could it be that an insect has had a good feed over a day or two and has left his skin like this.
He did have a new groomer about 4 weeks ago, could it be left over catches from the clippers that was maybe missed?
Will pop in a vet visit tomorrow, even just to get some cream maybe.

Have you given his collar and lead a good clean, just in case there is dirt transferring, or maybe something else on it that's irritating him?

Will do this, although he's a water lover so we often have to take his collar off to dry it. Thankyou

You have investigated sensibly. It could be that he has caught himself on something thorny. e.g. brambles, and because he can't get there to lick, he scratches (healing wounds itch, as you know from your own). If he were my dog, I'd put a dab of some kind of safe healing balm e.g. aloe vera gel on them, and keep an eye on things. Might be "groomer rash" but the treatment would be the same.

Thankyou for the advice. Will get some aloe vera balm today and begin the process of soothing it and watch how they go.

The aloe vera gel arrived today, a huge pot..Ted was quite happy to sit and let me rub it on the few scabby areas.
Fingers 🤞 they heal soon.

It's very useful stuff - I use it loads. Let us know how you both get on.

Oh that sounds good stuff. Is it better than the Anicura Gel? I've got that but nit sure if it's best for yeasty hot spots

We've been using this for 3/4 days...they've healed well. Still there but the black bits have gone
