I have 2 whippets Leo is 4 yrs old and castrated. Cody 2 next month not castrated. Cody last week when walking him he lunged at a man walking past barking and going for the man to bite him . On monday on my bike with him he did the same thing to two different people . Today he nearly bit a woman if she hadnt jumped in the road he ment it barking snarling and pulling to get to the woman. He is not doing it to all people we walk past . He is well socialized i dont know why he has just started to do this . I have never had a dog do this before so need advice thanks Pam.

Unusual behaviour. Is he in pain anywhere? Has he changed in any way apart from this threatening and trying to bite people? He could have a problem in his brain.

If normal in every other way, you need to be VERY firm with him and really tell him off when he does this. It is not acceptable and you must stop him or you will be in trouble. It is a difficult situation, I hope you can sort him out.

:luck:

Sorry you are going through this, it must be very worrying, but I really don't think it's possible to advise responsibly on aggression problems across the internet and without seeing the dog in question.

Bertha's point about pain is a good one, with any sudden change in behaviour it's worth getting a thorough vet check done, there are all sorts of physical conditions from ear infections to hormonal imbalances that can affect a dog's behaviour.

If that's ruled out then it might be best to find a good behaviourist to come and assess first-hand what's going on and advise and hopefull nip this behaviour in the bud. There may be someone in your area listed on the APBC website, or possibly others here can recommend someone in your area.

Good luck sorting this out, I hope everything works out OK :luck:

Ahh Pam,you must be distraught.I know Cody, and it is very out of character.Who puts them in the traps when racing? Is it you and Steve?I am not sure how it works at the track. Its as if he has become fear aggressive of people.Do you think he could be trying to protect you.He is very posessive over you,its just a thought.Flippin dogs, they cause us more grief. In the meantime Pam,muzzle him,as if he does bite, you may loose him.

Thinking about you love.

I agree about muzzling him in the mean time.

My boy Badger suddenly lunged and bit a passing woman when he was six years old, having never shown anything remotely like that in his previous behaviour.

To this day he will occasionally just lunge silently and try to nip the bum of a passer by...I muzzled him two days after biting the woman( she wasn't hurt at all, he just grabbed the seam of her trousers luckily..she was cross though!)once I'd located a muzzle and he is never walked on lead without one now because the biting can be totally random and he can go for days with nothing and then suddenly decide to bite.

Good luck, I hope you get to the bottom of it.
