:( i have a 18 month old lurcher sam he is very fit.will do all i ask of him till it is time for him to catch a rabbit,he will not pick up.i think :angry: he thinks he has done good if he chases rabbit in to bush.can some one help. :rant:
 
don't know about anyone else but i had the same trouble with mine and i took him out with experienced dogs and he got the hang of it in no time at all, andrew

sounds to me like he's lost interest, like scooter dack says try and get him out with some experienced dogs, he will soon learn :luck:

Not all Sight hounds will pick up.

If your dogs is made up mainly of sight hounds I suggest this is the reason.

I suggest you cross it with a Gun Dog - they pick up!!
 
Go back to basic retrieving training take the dog alone with a rabbit skin dummy in to your hall or another narrow passage play with the dog & dummy throwing it up the hall/passage & encourage your dog to pick up the dummy & then call it to you the reason you do it in a passage is to stop the dog running off with the dummy untill all is well :thumbsup:
