My beautiful whippet died on Saturday 13th Feb. We're all devastated. He began bleeding rectally day before-we took him to vet and they kept him o/night. Next day he worsened and continued to bleed. Transfusion couldn't save him. Post-mortem showed all his internal organs were healthy. Someone said he could've eaten a rodent who'd been poisoned with Warfarin but then he should've bled from all orifices not just rectall, shouldn't he? Vets are baffled and we're left with acute sadness and memories of such a lovely boy-this will take me some time to get over and no-one seems to understand and they say,"oh its just a dog" I'm sure people on this site will be more understanding. We have 2 other whipptes who are fit and healthy but I'm nervous for them in case the same fate happens to them. Anyone any ideas what caused this .

Oh I am so, so very sorry :'(

A whippet is never "just a dog" - they are the most special members of the family and, in my case, they are my best friends too

Run Free little lad, go with love xxxx

So sorry to hear your sad news. Hope you find some answers.

Im new on here and I don't know you, but im so sorry to hear about your dog. To have happened to a healthy dog so quickly is distressing, you must be devastated, my thoughts are with you at this sad time. I know with my puppies I love them like they are my children, you create a bond with them that cant be explained to anyone who doesn't have a dog. I hope you find the answers to what happened, and I can imagine how worried you are for your other dogs but im sure they will be ok.

hugs and

lots of love xxxxxx

R.I.P LITTLE ONE.

So very sad to lose a dog, and so unexpectedly too. I hope that someone can give you some answers although I suspect, even knowing a cause will give you little comfort. Thinking of you.

I'm so sorry, what a terrible thing to happen and what a shock for you :(

I can understand it's upsetting not knowing what caused it, but if it was poison of some kind there was probably nothing that could have been done by the time the symptoms started to show :( :(

Sleep tight little one :huggles:

OMG I just don't know what to say....words will never be enough to help you feel even a fraction better (((HUGS)))

I lost my Tina 18 months ago and still miss her SO much.....anyone who says 'just' a dog has NO IDEA  They are so much more than mere animals

So sorry for your loss, of course they aren't just dogs, people who think that have no understanding of the bond we have with our dogs. Mine are my companions, babies, protectors and therapists. The three who've passed away will never be forgotten or dismissed in anyway. I hope that you get some answers and that your other dogs are ok.

i am so very sorry to hear of your loss, i too have recently lost one of my most dear and best friends ever. I totally know where you are coming from and how upset and devastated you are. No amount of words can comfort you and you will feel tender for a very long time.

Dont try to control or with hold your pain, talk to those who understand as much as you can and dont avoid things that remind you of your beloved boy.

My Lola will keep your boy company and they will both look down on us.

Sending you lots of hugs. xx

So very sorry to hear your sad news.

I am so very, very sorry for your loss :huggles: To be bereaved as you have been is like having your best friend torn from you ... anyone who has ever given their heart to a dog understands that, and anyone who does not understand it has cleary not been privileged to be on the receiving end of the unconditional love a dog can give :flowers: I hope you get the answers you seek.
