Hi guys id really like some advise, I already have a male dog (7 months old) and we have recently purchased a puppy but isn't ready for her forever home just yet!

Our current dog is really good with dogs but hyperactive sometimes, I was dubious about bringing a puppy into the house and how he would react. Can anyone suggest the best way to introduce them :)

thanks

I would be very cool towards the puppy and pay lots of attention to your 7 month old. Young pups need lots and lots of sleep so this should not be difficult. Provide a safe, quiet place for each dog to get away from the other when it feels the need.

Try to make sure you bond with both of them separately. Teach each one to settle somewhere quiet while you spend quality time with the other one. It is very easy for dogs to end up bonded with each other, and to then take no notice whatsoever of their owner.

You do not say what sex each dog is. Be very careful of introducing a btich to a home containing a bitch of similar size. They can become quite territorial in adulthood and it rarely ends well. The safest combination is different sex, different breed, different size.

How many sleeps now? :)

If your current dog is vaccinated can he and the pup.have short visits before the pup comes home? And I think I read somewhere having a towel for each of them with the other's smell on it helps (although I might have made that up in my head ...)

Thanks for your replies, our 7 month old is male and the new pup is a female as I've heard having two of the same sex can be harder! They are both of similar breeds, ones mixed the other is pure.

We still have 33 sleeps for our new addition to arrive !
