i have a jack russell terrier which is 2 years old! and im thinking of getting another dog! problem is my terrier doesnt get on that well with dogs, she is fine with my mates lurcher and is okay with younger dogs who just want to play. but a bit iffy with other dogs.

if i was going to get another dog it would have to be a bitch so i know i wudnt be able to get a dog around the same age or older than her as they are liable to fight.

from your experiences would it be okay to get a dog around the 8 month mark which are still playful and puppyish as ive seen a few going. or get a young pup?

any help is appreciated! :D

regards

walker

well ive never had a jack but i have had terriers and other breeds that tend to fight a bit and me personally id always put a male with a female as i find that two females will fight to the death and so will two males. (w00t) but a male will always give in to a female and she will rule the roost,so no arguments, everyones happy!

Having had up to eight bitches living together and my mum has 4 dogs I cannot agree with KRIS as far as whippets go - maybe terriers are different - they are definitely less laid back I suspect.

I can only say my mate has 2 jackys half litter sisters a year apart and there is a bit dominance thing going on also both well socialised but the new one is a barky terrified little thing.

Definitely not another bitch, actually 2 bitches can be worse than 2 males. If you find a dog you like see how they get along before you actually get him. The person selling him may let you take him on a week trial period. :luck:

i have a jack bitch walker and if you are thinking of getting another dog i would go for a male but not a terrier breed. try a more laid back breed like a whippet or grey hound, somthing that isnt gonna be too bothered at being bossed around.

you need to remember that your jack bitch has had sole dominace in your home for 2 years and to intoduce another dog into that can irritate a placid dog nevermind somthing as short tempered as a jack. i tried to have another dog ( a whippet i found stray in the park ) after 3 days of her attacking it constantly for no reason i had to rehome it.
