Hi everyone, this is my first post and I'm really hoping someone can give me some advise.

We just got a new puppy and thought everything was going well with our 6 year old. The vast majority of the time they are fine together, but occasionally the older one gets a bit rough with the wee puppy and grabs her round the throat. He has choked her twice now and I'm worried that he will hurt her.

Is this normal behaviour, and is there anything I can do to stop it.

We have been careful to make sure that he gets loads of attention, probably getting more now than before actually, and they seem to be OK when they are outside in the garden playing together, this has only happened in the house.

Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated as we really want to keep the pup but don't want her ton get hurt.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Mark welcome to k9 ,plenty of people on here that will give you some good advice ,hope you enjoy k9 as much as we do

Normal for him to behave like this, the puppy is a bit vulnerable so stop it before he hurts the puppy. They will play like that and be rough, only stop it when it goes over the top. Most adults will no deliberately hurt a puppy. Eventually things will settle down and they will find the right level. Have you thought about what will happen when your bitch comes in season? Will you be able to cope, just a thought.

Thanks very much for this. That's really what we have been doing, and he is getting used to her being around more everyday. Thanks again
