I own a around 7 year old Border Collie and my parents have finally said yes to allow me to have a new puppy, I wont be getting one till the end of the year because my neighbour is breeding her dog so I will hopefully be getting a puppy from her. But the thing that I want to know is whether my older dog will get jealous of the new arrival, she lives with my 6 year old cat and year old rabbit and gets on fine with both of them. We rescued my dog a couple of years ago due to if she couldn't find a home the farmer would do the usual thing and she had been living in a conservatory due to her for-the-time-being owners other dog not liking her. So I thought maybe her background and age being a possible factor. She does meet plenty of other dogs as we only a week ago took her to a dog show and took no notice of the other dogs and she also gets on well with my neighbours dogs. (we have dog owners in nearly every house down our street). I do have to add though that she has taken a disliking to Jack Russels or similar breeds because two were nasty to her so she decides every Jack Russel is a threat. Do you think that she would be ok with a new addition, any advice or help would be good. (I have attached a few pics of my BC, the one where she looks scared was the first night we got her)

Hi, I'm not an expert but heres my advice; Is it possible to take your Collie over to your neighbours to get to know the pups, maybe she will take a like to one, if not make sure you introduce the pup away from your house in a quiet place, also I'd feed your collie, pet her, walk her first before the new pup that's if you plan on training the pup seperate in terms off lead/offlead training. It would be best to make sure your girl is higher in the hierarchy for later life because she will be old by the time your new pup is mature. X

Edit; My dog is scared of jack russells, she got attacked by one off lead when she was only 4 months :(

it probably will be ok to take her to see the pups when they are born because she already knows the dog they are going to breed (Cavalier) and gets on great with her and she will probably already act as the "alpha" because if our cat does something wrong and we tell her off our dog goes over to her to check her as well (just to make sure she understands). We also want to keep them on the same schedule such as feeding and walks.
