Hi I collect my puppy on 11/10/13

She is an Alaskan Malamute-Samoyed cross

Now we have a create large enough for her when fully grown so quite large.

We plan to only use this for the first few months untill she is house trained. Is it ok to leave her in the create all night? From midnight untill 7am? Or will she need let out during the night?

Also we plan to keep the crate in the kitchen. Is this ok or should we bring her into our room? I don't really want to do this tho.

Second question she will have had her first jab when we get her she won't get her second untill 2 weeks later. Where can we take her? Garden? Street? Other dogs?

Thanks

Hi Jamie, well i have never had my dogs sleep in a different room as myself as I always found they slept better and avoided the barking or growling if they heard something outside. I know many people have them in the kitchen but it's not what i wanted to do.

At first they will cry alot and I had the dog bed next to mine and if they cried I put my hand down and stroked them and they calmed down. They never slept in my bed but next to it or under!

if you think that they have never been alone and then are expected to be happy left in the kitchen etc... My dogs never weed in the night seven when they were pups so they slept right through (my children never did LOL)

it all depends what you want to do but think of them like 'babies'... and how a baby will react when being left alone and try to find a way best suited for your needs.

If I remember right they can go in your garden but not where other dogs are as they need the second jab!

Each puppy will be different about being left alone. A naturally independent puppy, as long as it is warm and comfortable, will probably settle. Warmth is very important. I used a whelping box heat pad for my puppy. They have armoured cable so are safe if used correctly.

You may find your pup goes through the night but some cannot. You might like to have a baby alarm so that you can here any noise that indicates the toilet is needed.

Unvaccinated pups can mix with vaccinated dogs. If friends have vaccinated, friendly dogs then their garden will be safe. Do supervise meetings. Your puppy should enjoy the encounter and not be allowed to be too silly and pester the older dog.

Your puppy can be carried anywhere and go in the car anywhere.

Do check out puppy classes in your area. Go along on your own and look for ones where they puppies all look contented with the trainer supervising all interactions. There should not be a free for all. You will get a lot of support and your pup will make lifelong friends!
