We got a new puppy before the Holiday and I have spoke to someone that also has a puppy from the same litter. They were able to get an appt at their vet and found out their puppy had round worm. I can only bet that if that one has it mine does too and my moms as well ( we both got one) I was unable to get an appt before we left for our trip and now no vets are open due to the holiday. I called the vet we normally go to they are emergency and open 24hrs and asked if there was something I could use to start treating until we were able to get home and their response to me " Legally we cant tell you anything sorry. Would you like to amke an appt?....... My question is this Im an hr away from civilation once I leave this area. I have the puppy and another dog and 2 small children that Im concerned about now and the vet wont help me. What can i give this puppy and my older dog to help with the worms if he has them or to prevent them if he does not that can be bought in the store now?

TIA

Nikki

its not the end of the world so please dont panic , just get to your nearest good petstore and get some worming tablets there, but only use them til you can get some drontal worming tablets, you can get these from canine chemist on the net as well as flea and tick drops, if you order tonight online im sure you will have them by mon morn so no need to even bother about the crappy petshop ones? flea and worm treatment should be done as a simple routine prevention and no harm will come , i worm mine 3mthly as adults but as puppies form 2weeks and at 2 week intervals til 12 weeks with panacur puppy wormer then at 12 weeks they go on t drontal wormer and in the routine of 3 mths like the adults , i hope this is of some help to you and this is jmo

As Tanya said, the puppy will survive till after the holidays. :) We worm our pups every 2 weeks with Drontal until they are 8 weeks old. The reason we do it so often is that pups are born with immature worms and single dose will not get them all, so most pups will have some.

For time being make sure your children wash their hands extra carefully after handling the dogs. When you can get some Drontal trat all your dogs Iif your pup passes large number of worms do it again in 2 weeks time. Other ways just do all of them about every 3 months as recomended.

:)

I buy my drontal plus from our local chemist, no prescription, try a chemist while you are away, go in and explain the situation the age and weight of you pup.

Good luck and try not to worry too much

My local Morrisons chemist stocks Drontal tablets.

as you have a new puppy have you had a look in the FAQ section here? lots of hints and tips there? also we NEED pics!!! we are all addicted to puppy pics!!! :))

I get my Drontal in our local stockfeed supplies store (that is in OZ).

As long as your pup looks healthy with no bones or ribs sticking out, and has nice soft shiny coat, it is very unlikely he is badly worm infested.

It is also possible that your friend's vet told her the pup needs to be wormed, which they all do, and not that the pup is actually badly infested.

We deffinitely need some pix :)
