Hi,

I might be getting a new puppy soon, and I was just wondering how long and how many times I should walk it? I work during the day but will have some-one home for the puppy, I have time every morning and evening to walk so that's not a problem. Also are their any good puppy training classes near Creswell uk?

The puppy is a French bulldog Cross Doge de-Bordeaux.

Thanks

Kirsty

Five minutes walk per month of age. So at 8 weeks, about 10 minutes. That doesn't include off lead time pottering about the garden. This is to allow the bones and joints to mature.

Check out the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) website for a list of trainers in your area.

The most important thing with a young puppy is to socialise, socialise, socialise. Think of the world that the puppy will have to cope with and try to gently expose you puppy to all the challenges it will face.

First of those challenges is the breeder's environment. Is the puppy kept in a home environment? Is the mother of good temperament? Are all the health checks, worming etc up to date? Both French Bulldogs and Dogue de Bordeaux suffer from various health complaints so make sure you are aware of the ones to look for. The breeder should be breeding from sound stock.
