Hello all.
My 3 year old miniature schnauzer/poodle mix is acting strange since we brought home a standard poodle puppy yesterday. He loves other dogs and normally likes to play, but seems stand-off-ish towards the puppy. He interacted with my dad’s dog, and seems happy ( excited and tail wags) but goes to his crate when we’re just sitting around.

Liking playing with other dogs isn't the same as welcoming then into your home. A lot of dogs are less than thrilled with new puppies - I'm sure others will have loads more advice, but first, make sure your older dog has lots of attention, and second, that he has somewhere to go where he can get away from the annoying intruder. If your puppy starts annoying him, calmly step in and remove the puppy - puppies are cute, but can stretch the patience of older dogs.

This is often likened to your partner bringing a new partner home - 'I love you so much I thought it would be great to have another wife, and you two can be friends'. When I was young we had a collie, and then brought a Yorkie puppy home - I remember the collie sitting next to my dad, flatly refusing to even look at the puppy. But they did become best friends.
