Hello everyone,

Just got my first whippet after many yaers of waiting. I am a pest controller and use my Bedlington terriers and the whippet for rabbit and rat control.

Would like to race the whippet over the summer to keep her fit and for a bit of fun as I've always enjoyed a 'night at the dogs'

Where do I start? Does the dog have to be registered with some central organisation before it can race? She is a blue bitch, pure bred I believe but not K.C reg about 19in and 28lb. I think I have seen there is a club at Newton Aycliffe is there one anywhere around York. Is there any websites with info on the clubs and training of whippet to race or a book to read?

Sorry for all the questions

Nigel

Perhaps start by subscribing to Whippet News, it's £30 for the year & has club info etc in 01455-442239 and speak to chris.

As far as a book for training goes maybe try ebay theres usually whippet books on there but once you find a track nearest to you the members will help you with training etc

Thank you Vicky,

Will phone and start to get Whippet News. Is the monthly done by Mr + Mrs Collins still on the go, I used to work with Marty in Stockton?

Save your money and don't buy a book as im sure member's will help you out with training the dog. Hope you do start racing as it can be great fun :) . Im in Scotland so your a wee bit too far South for my club :p . Im sure when you find a local club you will find they are willing to help you out with the triel's ect to get the dog going.

Do get the whippet news though as you will find out load's of information about club's and where the open's are. You can buy it monthly it is £2.20 .
