Hi there,

I've been lurking around the site for some time now...

This place seem to be full with hard core pros :)) and I am a complete coursing beginner PLUS owning two Italian Greyhounds.. :p

Anyway, living in Dubai, Enited Arab Emirates, does not give you too many opportunities to enjoy activities with your dog.. so I purchased my own lure coursing machine and accessories few months back.

I am trying to set up the first Coursing Club in UAE-got some members with salukis (big thing here due to the beduin traditions) and desert dogs (saluki crosses).

There is this big tradition of hunting with salukis and falcons in UAE-but again - cant really join them - the falcons and salukis would just have a go at the iglets.

So I am getting my own-very first- REAL whippet in July!

Well-that would be our little introduction ;) .

I would realy appreciate your help and advice in the future - I am sure I will some q to ask!

Once again, great site!

Cheers,

Martina

Hi there. Loved the photos you posted.

Fantastic photos, hope it takes off. Love to see some pics of your Whippet, when you get it :D . I love your aviator pic

A lure machine all of your own, wow!!! It used to be my childhood dream to move to the middle east and have a Saluki and falcon (instead of which I just have have a whippet and chickens :b )

I don't know what it's like running dogs competitively on sand - perhaps some of the Aussies could comment?

Good luck with your venture, and keep us posted!

Elizabeth

Welcome to K9 Martina.

Great photos. You'll have to keep us informed about the lure coursing.

Well - yeah - middle eastern life has its beauty. Have been living here for nearly 7 years now - well used to all its quirkiness..

One of my good friend here is a local saluki breeder (you can see his dogs on Hamad Al Ghanem ) so he is helping me with the Coursing Club set-up.

We actually do not course on the soft sand dunes (would be difficult to set up the pullies) but on the sandy/dusty areas around the city. Or the little bushie deserts that surround the city.

Thanks for the nice comments, really enjoy the site.
