the NNWRF JUNE STEELE MEMORIAL OPEN is a new event and will be run at DEV ON each year in memory of June who sadly passed away there in 2005

June was an avid supporter of the Fed from its origin she loved to watch and race the bigguns and the little uns alike, this is to be a day of something for everyone, to be enjoyed by all we hope

This open will run alongside the NNWRF PUPPY/YEARLING CHAMPIONSHIPS for 2008 so it will be adults only for this year

LETS HAVE SOME GOOD SUGGESTIONS FROM YOU for the format

i.e 2 weight classes, 2ft per lb

or all in 1/2yd per lb

classes for the over 35lb will be upto 40lb, upto 48lb and no limit Ipersonally feel the no limit should be scratch but what about the upto 40lb and 48lb being 1/2yd per lb for a change

Please remember that the Devons traps are most likely the smallest club traps in england, big uns need to have sides greased. :luck:

how about all in at 2ft per pound up to 35lb and the heavies could run 2 ft as well up to the no limit as they would run off scratch.

I don't think we have ever had a 2 ft lb all in open before, have we?

cheers jim l

how about a,b,c,d,e 2ft lb 160yds all in every one gets a chance to win something

thought we would have been flooded with suggestions are you all in hibernation -_-

a couple of suggestions I had from someone last night ;

all in upto 25 and upto 35 2ft/lb - 2nd/3rd through to B final - 4th/5th through to C final

or

all in upto 35lb 1/2yd / lb 1st /2nd through to final - 3rd/4th run to second chance final (these would have to be run as 4 dog races)

plus 36 to 48lb run to same format

No limit scratch

final suggestion was to run a time handicap

all in 3lb classes scratch racing 1st/2nd through 3rd/4th through to second chance

finals upto 25 and 35 2ft/lb or 1/2yd lb

remember this event is part of the DEVON festival of racing will be good to have something different from the norm

What about trying a staggered handicap - as said June raced dogs both ends of the spectrum lightweights and heavyweights, see if a handicap like that would suit all weights.

I'm with you - if you really do want something different, this is the one to try  I'd be very interested in the outcome

Only if Tony Taylor stands at the traps sorting the marks out as anything over 1 yard a pound goes right over the top of my head lol (w00t)

Devon would be an ideal place to try something new as there's lots of people there in any case.

I fear if you tried a staggered handicap elsewhere a lot of lightweight owners would chuck the toys out of the pram and boycott the event in the hope they can call it a failure to get back to the good old days of having half a track start.
