Out this morning on a farm I hadn`t visited for a while up in the Dales.

We have permission on the neighbouring farms and myxie has raised it`s ugly head on one in particular.

I wasn`t sure what to expect, but when I had spoken to the farmer he reckoned that there were plenty about.

I arrived to find the sun shining, it was a beautiful day. I had a quick word with the farmer who was just moving some silage as I arrived. He asked me to take a look in one of the bottom fields as there was a warren there near a wall and the rabbits digging was undermining the wall. I had a look and there was a warren there sure enough. I netted up as I had been requested to. The dogs marked well and soon after the ferret was entered I got the bumping and rumbling that every ferreter loves. 2 rabbits bolted , one into a net and the other from a tiny bob hole I hadn`t noticed . Suzie was on it though and caught it with a smart strike.

Nothing else bolted and the ferret emerged, so I`ll have to have another look at that set next time.

As we walked up the fell it seemed that most of the rabbits were sat out on the fell and not in the warrens. We had some tremendous sport Gypsy and Suzie both working the reedy grass well, putting the rabbits up and having some great runs. We caught a few myxied rabbits , but it appears not all are infected which is good news. I decided not to net up , but to let the dogs do the work, and was rewarded with some great bolters from the nice open sets on this farm, Suzie and Gyp worked really well, the highlight for me was 1 smallish set I ferreted - 2 rabbits bolted simultaneously Suzie took 1 and Gyp the other after a good run on each, they both retrieved together.

I ended up with 13 rabbits, not a massive bag but hard earned by the whippets who worked like demons.

Mornings like this to me a priceless, it`s fantastic sport and a real test of a whippets speed stamina and striking ability, you wouldn`t get carrier bags running like the rabbits on this fell ;D ;D ;D

Not many pics today as I was on my own, and the camera was playing up, but here`s a couple
