Im really not happy with Eden Animal Rescue (where i got buster from!) Yes they do a good job taking in dogs and cats etc but they give no help once there rid! i have rang them three times to ask when buster was last wormed and how much they think its costs to neuter him so i can have a check ready, and every time they have fobbed me off. Asking me to ring back another time and speak to various people! so the third time i asked them to ring me back, which was 3 hours ago and they still havent bothered. Its almost as if they have got rid of the dog and now they dont want to help. There is no wonder a lot of dogs come back, espesh as the new owners get no support from the rescue center watsoever! sorry every one but thats my rant over

oh dear, thats not good is it??

why dont you just ring your vet to get a price on getting him done :) might save you some time

as for worming, well maybe you should just do it yourself.........im sure someone here will be able to tell you if it would be ok to do now even if he was done in the rescue, as im not sure about that

not sure if it is harmful to them to have it done soon after they have had it done elsewhere  (if that makes sense) :- "

:luck:

Really unusual !!

When I got my collie pup, the rescue centre wouldn't leave me alone until she was speyed! They charge £90 to adopt and this included the cost of speying (but that was over 4 years ago).

My local vet charges about £75 for neutering a dog.

Keep pestering them ... they should show more interest in a dog they've homed

I rehomed a female staffy/whippet (?) cross from the SSPCA (Inverness) in May. She was originally at an SSPCA centre outside Glasgow. I drove the 4 hrs to Inverness to collect her and asked several times if she was speyed but got conflicting/evasive answers. Howver she was only about a year old, with very thin fur and no visable scar. Both myself and the vet agreed she wasnt neutered.

When i got home i looked through the paperwork and realised that there was no neutering voucher. No problem i thought ... and dropped them an email. I checked with friends etc and on the web and yes it seems the SSPCA has a policy on neutering rehomed dogs and cats so whats the problem and everyone i know got a voucher including me when i rehomed my previous dog from them. I got a message back from the email asking which centre she was from and then silence again. In the interim i phoned my vet to get a quote (£135) which i would have paid as she had to be neutered but on top of the £90 rehoming fee, the 8 hrs of petrol and the vet bill for the bite wound she had when i picked her up i would have preferred not to.

As promised i wrote them a note letting them know how Pippa had settled in and attached some pics. I made a referal at the end to the silence about neutering but nothing more than that. However that must have hit a nerve and i got a call ... apparently only the 3 larger centres cover the cost of neutering (even though the rehoming cost is the same!). They did agree that as she spent the previous how ever many months at one of the larger centres and as that was my local centre that they would spey her there on the voucher scheme.

I too felt that the "aftercare" service was minimal. I would have rehomed her with or without voucher and paid the rehoming cost irrespective but did feel they deliberatley misled me about their neutering policy.

In hindsight i am glad i didnt have to pay ... in the 3 months after i rehomed her she cost me £400+ in antibiotics and creams etc for a skin complaint and the most horrendous open sores.

Kilmousk that is terrible. Well eventually i got my mad up and me and buster went walkies to the rescue center. Saw the manager, who was trying to get rid of me by saying ohhh theres ppl looking around that i need to see, but i was insitent and eventually he admitted he didn't know when he was last wormed and said that i should do it to be on the safe side, and that i have to go to the vets and tell them that Eden Animal Rescue said to get the op done on the voucher scheme. Although i now know what to do i am still very disappointed that it came to me having to lose my temper and walk up there to get anything done!

well done for going, they should have returned your phone calls in the first place, shocking really isn't it, they go on and on about how much they care (and im sure they do) but the after care is just as important.

glad you got it sorted

 When I worked in a rescue centre dogs were spayed or castrated before being allowed to their new homes or if in and out quick were given a voucher to use at the vets and owners were and are encouraged to keep in touch  . Like you said in your post - sounds like theyre not bothered.

Any good rescue centre should give you all the dog's paperwork regarding vaccinations etc at the time of adoption. Most neuter before rehoming too, though I guess for smaller centres this is a big drain on funds.

On the other hand many rescues are run entirely by volunteers who have jobs, families and their own animals to care for. I agree that fobbing you off three times isn't good but it's more likely they are run off their feet than that they don't care. It's not as though they are a business with paid staff sitting in an office waiting to take phone calls. I think you have to make some allowances.

The SSPCA basically act as a pound rehoming council strays, they are not a rescue as such - something a lot of people aren't aware of. They don't homecheck, neuter or have any sort of contract to say they will take dogs back if things don't work out.
