Hi folks

as most of you know i am the proud owner of Mr Beanhead the evil Midgetty thing, more commonly known as the beagle pup called James.

he seems to be increasingly doing an odd little thing and I was wondering if it was normal.

he goes up to the other dogs randomly and keeps trying to suckle( i think thats the right word, he thinks they're his mummy and wants a drink  )from them, he does it to their armpit area of a front leg or sometimes from the chest.

he'll do it if standing next to them or sometimes he gets in the dog bed and tries to do it while they lie together.

he also does it to my arm, in the crook of my elbow if i'm cuddling him and he's sleepy.

its kind of sweet but a little bit sad too.

anyone seen this before and any idea why he would do it.....he's ten weeks old now.

thanks.

Sounds like he might have been weaned to early. I had a kitten like that, she was a stray and very tiny. Never grew out of it!

It is a bit sad, hope James grows out of it poor little chap.

thanks...he didn't do it to begin with but has been doing it for about a week on and off.

when we visited the litter at six weeks we met the mum but she wasn't in with the pups, they were in one room and the pups in another but we don't know when contact with the pups was stopped.

he's such a contradiction of behaviour, half the time he is stubborn and bitey and naughty and destructive and barky and pushy and you think he's a tiny monster  :clown: and then he does this little babyish thing and it's really funny how sweet he seems, o:) o:) but it makes me feel sorry for him. :(

i wouldnt worrie about it my dana used to do that too, i woke up one morning to find she had latched on to my bust one morning...needless to say i wore a top in bed for a few months after lol. she soon grew out of it, i think its just a comfort thing hun

Hi our youngest iggie did that for a while , he did stop around 5 months but progressed to sooking or trying to sook the bits and bobs of our other boy and every other male playmate he can get is chops round. Not much help sorry.Never bothers with the girlies?????????????????????????

Arnie used to do that when he was a pup. I think he was weaned too early too. We bought him a little cuddle buddie that he used to nestle up with. Or you could always buy him a dummy!!!! :p

I am sure he will grow out of it. Bless him.

When we had our last litter one of the pups was still with us when he was 6 months old. A gentleman came to meet him and asked to see his mother. Tegan came in and Dexter ran straight up to her and tried tosuckle of her. The man laughed and said well she's definitely his mum.
